Participant Pledge

Participant/Parent Pledge

Ephesians 5:1-2 (NLT) – “Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dear children.  Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins...”

As a St. Peter’s UMC Upward Basketball and Cheerleading participant, I understand and agree to adhere to the highest standard of personal conduct.  I also understand the importance of providing an example to other young people participating in the league and will adhere to the following guidelines as detailed in the Upward Sports Parent Guide.

Practices

I agree to make sure that my child is on time to practices.  I also understand that our program only allows (1) one-hour practice per week at the St. Peter’s UMC Gym.  Additional offsite practices are strictly prohibited.  This supports our goal for healthy competition without any unfair advantages.

Game Time

I understand that a significant value held by this league is to provide an opportunity for players of various skill levels to participate.  Game time will be given to all players, regardless of athletic ability, who have faithfully attended and have participated in scheduled practices and games.  I will not complain when this policy is put into practice.

Referees

I will support coaches and referees working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all participants.  Out of respect for the referee, I agree that I will uphold the Circle of Affirmation (found in the Parent Guide) and will not shout or complain to the referee, even when I disagree with his/her calls.  If I feel the need to communicate a concern with the referee, I will do so through my coach, the Referee Commissioner or the League Director.

Disciplinary Action

I understand that any violation of this pledge may, at the discretion of the coach and league officials, result in disciplinary action including suspension from any game or for the season.

Success

I understand that that success of this particular season, as individuals and a team, will be determined not by the number of points scored or wins versus losses, but by whether we played hard, together and fairly.  Our goal is to play with the utmost display of character, conduct, respect and integrity.

I confirm that I have received a copy of the Upward Sports Parent Guide and pledge to act accordingly.
