Brief History

The Georgia Soccer Development Foundation (or GSDF), who owns and operates the Georgia Soccer Park, was founded in 1996 with the goal to contribute to the development of soccer fields statewide and to build a new top quality complex that would be the hub of soccer in Georgia.  In 1998, the concept of the Georgia Soccer Park started to become a reality as the first 35.73 acre parcel of land was acquired off of Camp Creek Parkway, just one mile outside of I-285.  In 2002, the Georgia State Soccer Association and the Concorde Fire Soccer Association partnered with the GSDF. Contributions were received from the Woodruff Foundation, the United States Soccer Federation, the University Financing Foundation, and several individual donors (the Georgia Soccer Park Partners), allowing GSDF to purchase an adjacent 73 acre parcel of land.  The formation of the park began soon after, with the goal of creating a 16-field complex including a study hall and small stadium.
On Labor Day weekend 2007, GSP opened with five fields, paved parking for 240 cars and the infrastructure necessary to support the full development of the complex, to be completed in phases based on fundraising.  This was made possible thanks to the Founding Partners and especially Eben and Mimi Hardie’s unrelenting support.  In 2009, the Atlanta Flying Disc Club, an Ultimate (Frisbee) organization became partners with the park, funding the construction of the sixth field and a 500+ car gravel parking lot. GSP changed names to the Georgia Sports Park in recognition of the variety of sports using the park.

GSP is the culmination of more than 10 years of work by the Georgia Soccer Development Foundation in conjunction with the Georgia State Soccer Association and the Atlanta Concorde Fire Soccer Club.
