EVALUATIONS
Evaluations will take place November 5th & 8th..  Teams will be assigned their players according to skill levels.  Once all the teams are assigned, coaches will meet and pray for their players.  You should be contacted around Thanksgiving or the week after to learn team names and practice times.

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading has been a successful ministry of Northport Baptist Church for over 10 years.  Each year, we have hundreds of children learn the basic skills of basketball and Christ-like sportsmanship.  Parents, grandparents and other church members volunteer their time to provide guidance and encouragement to all children involved.

 
Basketball teams are formed according to gender and grade. Girls have their own league and boys have their own league. Generally there are enough teams in each grade that 1st graders play only other 1st graders. If a grade has too few participants, 2 grades may be combined (i.e. 2nd and 3rd grade boys or Kindergarten and 1st grade girls).
Our cheerleaders are divided into squads according to grade. Squads will cheer for different teams each week to be sure each team (boys and girls) has been supported and encouraged by a cheer squad. All squads learn the same cheers and routines.
                          
Participants are praised for their achievements. Every player is awarded a star at the end of each game. The color of the star is significant.  Ask your child what the color represents.

Updates

Verse of the Week:

Each week at practice, the coach will give each player a scripture card. Players will be expected to say the verse from memory at the next practice. Players should have a cd with each verse put to song. This makes memorization easy and fun.



Coaches Tips

Players learn more than basic physical skills in basketball. They also learn about teamwork and Christ-like sportsmanship.

About Our Club

Northport Baptist Church has sponsored Upward Basketball and Cheerleading for over 10 years.  Many volunteers give of their time and resources to make this a positive experience for each child who participates. The program is overseen by the Associate Pastor-Children, Kenyon Hamner.

Registration Info

Early registration is $85 for basketball and for cheerleading.  After October 26, the fee will be $95. All participants will receive a t-shirt, jersey/cheer top and shorts/skort.
