The History of Derry Area Midget Football
Since 1958, the Derry Area Midget Football (DAMF) organization has been a proud cornerstone of our community—providing youth football and cheerleading opportunities without ever charging a participation fee. For over six decades, we've opened our fields to local children and, annually, we welcome more than 200 players and cheerleaders in kindergarten through 6th grade.
Thousands of young athletes have come through our program—many of whom continued playing or cheering at higher levels, while others returned to give back to the organization that helped shape them. DAMF is more than a program—it's a legacy of community, teamwork, and growth.
Located 52 miles east of Pittsburgh in the small town of Derry, DAMF has proudly competed in several leagues over the years. We were part of the Keystone Bantam League for 48 years before joining the PAC-6 League in 2007. In 2014, we moved to the Tri-County League, and from 2019 to 2020 played in the Washington-Greene Youth Football League (WGYFL). DAMF joined the WPYFL (Western Pennsylvania Youth Football League) in 2021, and in 2025, we proudly became members of the Keystone Foothills Football League, where we now face local teams such as Greater Latrobe, Mt. Pleasant, Greensburg, Yough, Albert Gallatin, Southmoreland, Elizabeth Forward, Laurel Highlands, and Lower Burrell.
More than just a sports program, DAMF teaches life lessons built on the values of Teamwork, Tradition, and Tenacity—principles that stay with our participants long after their playing days are over.
In 2008, we constructed a pavilion near our practice field at the high school. This space provides shelter during inclement weather and serves as a central hub for team meetings, bonding, and community events. It’s also available for school and public use upon request—another way DAMF contributes to the greater Derry area.
