Belchertown United Football Club
Codes of Conduct

Parents & Players,

With the season soon to begin, it is a good time to review the BUFC Parents, Players & Coaches Codes of
Conduct.

All of the BUFC parental and player expectations are important in representing the BUFC, however, it is
worthwhile to stress Game Day and training expectations.

BUFC CODE OF CONDUCT

As an organization committed to the coaching, playing and the enjoyment of youth soccer, the Belchertown
United Football Club seeks to promote the highest standards of courtesy, sportsmanship and positive
behavior among its parents and families at all times.

BUFC will not tolerate behavior which brings the club, team, or game into disrepute. The Club believes that
the attitude shown by parents toward their children, all children, coaches, referees, fellow parents, and
opposing players are of paramount importance. Parents must remember at all times that they are role models.
Parents are expected to also read, and enforce their child’s compliance of the Player Code of Conduct.

Anyone who violates these Code of Conduct is subject to immediate dismissal from any game and disciplinary
action up to and including being expelled from the club.

After having read this agreement and accept this agreement as part of my commitment to the Belchertown
United Football Club and acknowledge the consequences of not abiding by this agreement.

We are proud of the Belchertown United Football Club, the parents, coaches and players who make up this
community. Let's continue to represent the BUFC in positive ways.

Parent Code of Conduct
Belchertown United Football Club

The objective of the parent guide is to help all parents understand Belchertown United Football Club's culture and key policies. All parents, players and staff are asked to embrace this culture by adhering to the points raised in this document. These guidelines are a fundamental part of the development of a young football player and ensures the continued success of Belchertown United Football Club.

Day to Day Principles
1.1 Support my child with positive encouragement at all times.
1.2 Respect the facility rules, either home or away.
1.3 Assist my player by ensuring on time arrival to training and matches, with all the necessary equipment to participate to their fullest.
1.4 Maintain good relationships with coaches by respecting coach’s decision making.
1.5 Control jealousy and rivalries within the team, as a healthy team understands there will be competition for playing time and positions.
1.6 Refrain from expressing my opinion of the coaches or any player in front of my own child, other parents, or in a public setting.
1.7 Will not use social media to express any negativity toward anyone associated with BUFC.
1.8 Respect and adhere to the playing philosophies, policies, and rules determined by BUFC.
1.9 Video-taping or audio-recording of training by parents is prohibited.

Training / Game Day Behavior
2.1 Maintain self-control at all times.
2.2 Exhibit a high degree of sportsmanship, teamwork and positive attitude at all times when representing my child, the team and the club.
2.3 Refrain from coaching from the sidelines during training and/or games.
Coaching from the sidelines is counterproductive to your child's development for several reasons. First and foremost, the game situation will likely change prior to the time a player processes a parent's commands. Thus the commands only confuse the situation. Second a parent's command may be in conflict with how the players have been trained. For example, if we are teaching players to build out of the back and parents demand their child boot the ball away then players are being pressured to make the wrong choice. Third, many players tell us that the parental sideline coaching upsets them and makes it harder for them to play. On game days, trust your player. Soccer is the player's game.
2.4 Drop and go during training is preferred.
2.5 Refrain from using foul language.
2.6 Zero tolerance for racially motivated comments towards other parents, coaches, officials or opponents.
Game Day creates a competitive environment. Tournament finals, local events and high level leagues can all amp up the competitive pressure. It is critical that parents never engage the referee, fellow parents, our players and opponents' players before, during and after a game. This can be especially difficult if the opponents parents do negatively engage our players or parents. If these negative interactions take place (whether by our own parents or our opponents) please submit a report through the BUFC website through Compliance and Ethics Committee. Let's enjoy game day!
2.7 Accept defeat gracefully.
2.8 Refrain from questioning referees’ calls.
Please do not openly argue officials' calls. Being an official is an extremely difficult job. This is especially true when the official is a teen who is just learning to officiate the game. Some parents now accompany their teen when they officiate because of negative interactions. This has led to fewer and fewer individuals going into officiating. Treat the referees with respect!
2.9 Refrain from arguing or having confrontational dialogue with parents of opponents.

It is critical that parents never engage the referee, fellow parents, our players and opponents' players before, during and after a game. Communication Protocol
3.1 Encourage my player (U12 and above) to speak with the coach directly when discussing playing time, positions and any team issues.
3.2 Respect the 24-hour rule when dealing with issues and concerns. Parents who have a concern to address with a coach must wait at least 24 hrs to connect with a coach following a game or training session.
Please wait 24 hours to contact a coach after a game about game issues such as playing time .............. If there is a serious concern about a player's injury contact the coach immediately. If there is a serious violation of a BUFC policy please immediately contact the President or BUFC Compliance and ethic board via the Link to the Compliance/Ethics email
3.3 Avoid writing lengthy emails about issues and instead request a meeting with coach, President and/or Director of Coaching.
3.4 In cases where players are being bullied or verbally abused by players or coaches, parents are to report incidents to the BUFC Compliance Board, utilizing the BUFC Compliance email located on the clubs home page.

Financial Responsibility
4.1 Pay full financial obligation to the Club including player fees, required fundraising, and travel expenses.
4.2 Failure to meet financial commitments may lead to player suspension from training and/or games.
4.3 When registering, will read and accept financial responsibility policies in accordance with club registration.

Disciplinary Action
5.1 The Club has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for more serious issues such as bullying, racial abuse, or use of racial slurs, theft of property, illegal drug use, and significantly disrespectful or disruptive behavior, by anyone participating in a Belchertown United Football Club event.
