Bear Creek Softball – FAQ’s
1.When is registration and how do I register?
- The registration period for recreational softball is January 1st – March 20th. You may register online at www.bcjsasoftball.com
2.What ages can play in the Bear Creek Softball Program?
- BCJSA provides recreational and competitive softball for players between 4 and 19 years old. We offer recreational T-ball and Coach Pitch leagues between the ages of 4 and 7 years old. The recreational option continues for ages 8 to 19.
- The competitive option has 10 years and under, 12 years and under, 14 years and under, and 16 years and under leagues. These teams are set up individually and each team holds its own tryouts and determines their own rosters. The competitive teams play in league play during the week, but also enter several weekend tournaments throughout the year.
3.Where are softball games played?
- Schaefer Athletic Complex, located at Hampden & Kipling, is our home field. Away games will be played throughout the Jefferson County area (ex. Arvada, Wheat ridge, Golden, Lakewood, West Jeffco and South Jeffco.) Games are played on week nights.
4.Where are practices held?
- All practices are held at fields within 5 miles of our home field with some practices being held at Schaefer Athletic Complex.
5.What dates and times will practices be held?
- Practices are generally held twice a week and last from one to two hours, pending coaches’ discretion. Practices generally have two time slots with one beginning at 5:00 and the second session beginning at 6:30. Dates and time slots are determined after teams have been finalized and coaches have had an opportunity to request a time slot.
6.How long is the recreational season?
- The recreation season starts practices mid-April and the season will begin mid-May. The regular season ends mid-July with an optional season ending tournament.
7.When are tryouts?
- There are no tryouts for recreational teams. Tryouts for competitive teams take place in late July or early August for the next season.

9.How much is the softball registration fee and what is covered?
- The fee for the 2023 BCJSA Softball season for ages 4-7 is $175, and for ages 8-19 is $275. Registrations after the deadline of March 20th will have a $25 late fee.
- The softball registration fee covers game and practice field fees, umpire fees, insurance and coaches pack. The registration fee also covers a team Jersey and socks. (*the fee may also cover a visor, dependent on coaches’ decision, please see BCJSA Softball website – Equipment & Uniform Tab for more explanation). Softball pants are NOT included.
10.How do I know what team/age group my daughter should play on?
- Please see the BCJSA website under the ‘Age Chart’ tab, this provides a graph where you can find your daughters birthdate to determine age group.
11.Can I request a specific coach or team for my daughter?
- Players can make a request for a particular coach or team during the registration process, however no guarantee can be made. Returning players will likely be placed with the prior year’s team unless otherwise requested.
