With over 30 years of experience playing, coaching, and volunteering for a range of programs, Shane has dedicated himself to help teams and individuals achieve their full potential as a player and teammate. His background includes playing high school ball as a middle infielder and pitcher and playing collegiate baseball as a pitcher for Southern Utah University. Playing baseball sparked his deep passion and love of the game. He enjoys giving back to the sport that gave him so many opportunities as a player and in life in general. This includes teaching baseball skills, building strength and endurance, fostering good sportsmanship and teamwork, developing game intelligence, healthily competitive spirit, mental endurance, and inspiring a lasting love for baseball. Most recently, Shane has coached team’s player ages 12-18 in and around the Beaverton area, including multiple Sr. Fed JBO, Aloha HS JV2 Head Coach, Batzone high school fall ball, and Juniors Little League teams. He is the owner and operator of Batzone, an indoor sports facility that provides personal instruction as well as a space for programs seeking shelter from inclement weather in the great northwest. In addition, he has served on the board for several Beaverton organizations, including as President of the Beaverton High School Booster Club while his son played baseball for Beaverton High School. . |
A native of Eugene, OR, high school ball at South Eugene HS, where he earned all league and all-state honors. He went on to attend Macalester College in Minnesota, where he was a 4-year starter and two-time all conference selection at shortstop. Nate was an All-Midwest-Region selection in 2009, and finished his career with a .371 career batting average. Since graduating in 2010, Nate has been active in the coaching ranks. He was the head JV Coach at Southwest HS in Minneapolis from 2011-2013, spent five seasons as an Assistant Coach at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, and served as the Beaverton JBO Fed coach for 4 season. As a mental health professional, Nate’s coaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of the mental side of baseball. Nate believes in cultivating an atmosphere where players aren’t afraid of failure. Nate is passionate about helping young athletes work through inner criticism and self-doubt, so that they can trust and rely on the skills they’ve honed in practice. When he’s not coaching, Nate loves to climb mountains, read a good novel, and play pickup basketball. |
