In 2002 the Little Leagues from Bessemer, Ironwood, and Wakefield realized it would be in the best interests of everyone involved to become one cooperative league. The benefits of such an organization were obvious from the beginning. In 2016 the Charter Committee in Williamsport granted permission for the Hurley Little League to join the Penokee Range. Hurley teams had been involved in interleague play for some time, and now the four cities are all one league.
The Penokee Range Little League is governed by the board of directors with two members from each city and a president. The league operates under one Michigan charter. Interleague play between the four leagues includes all divisions except T-ball. At tournament time, Bessemer, Hurley, Ironwood, and Wakefield’s combined all-star teams play in Michigan’s District 11.
