ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
FUTURES is a free program open to boys and girls of 2017 & 2018 birth years who are looking for a comprehensive,
introductory soccer experience. Space is limited within the Future's Program and we encourage interested players to register early.
During the Future's practices, players are taught fundamental soccer skills, then put into small sided (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4) games to find their own way to use them on the field. While traditional recreation programs play 6v6, 7v7 or 8v8, fewer players on the field ensures each player gets more touches on the ball, and plays a bigger part of the game. Coaches will follow a curriculum so players are learning new skills each week within small sided games. With a player centered environment coaches allow players the opportunity to experiment, try things, and make their own decisions. There is no officiating and players keep score (or not), with an emphasis on trying new skills rather than winning. In addition, parents are encouraged to be kept back from the side of the field to create less of a gallery feel. This is an important part of the process.
All our staff are USSF/USC/UEFA Licensed Soccer Coaches who are experienced and trained to work with these age groups.
Fundamental and important techniques such as dribbling, passing, shooting, receiving, 1v1 play etc. in a very positive, energetic and welcoming environment will be taught while having fun and giving our young players the opportunity to learn skills and build confidence within the sport. We want to create a long lasting love of the game and players who want to play for the club in the many years ahead.
Future Timbers does not play official matches however we regularly play small-sided (3v3, or 4v4) games during practice to get a feel for live game action and understand the basic rules. This maximizes individual touches on the ball during a scrimmage scenario, in addition to the hundreds of touches each day during technical skill work.
We hope to see your Future Timbers or Thorns player on the soccer fields soon!
