Challenger is an adapted Little League program for athletes who experience a disability. The Challenger Little League program is specifically designed to empower children, youth and young adults living with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. The program is designed to teach the athletes core life skills inherent to softball, including teamwork, communication, determination, resiliency, inclusion, support and courage. Challenger Little League ensures every athlete has the opportunity to play in a fun and safe environment where they learn to become more independent, build confidence and self-esteem, improve their communication skills, and set and achieve their own personal goals.
Today nearly 1000 leagues in 10 countries offer the Challenger program providing more than 30,000 children the opportunity to participate. Mattawan Little League is one of those programs and we are extremely proud to provide this to our community and are the only Challenger program in District 15! Beyond the regular season, we also host a Challenger Jamboree every year where neighboring Challenger Leagues come for a tournament and some amazing fun!
