WEST ALLEGHENY INLINE HOCKEY

What is Inline Hockey?

What are the differences between ice hockey and inline (roller) hockey? The biggest differences between inline (roller) hockey and ice hockey are the number of players and the two significant rule differences. Inline hockey is played with only 5 players on the rink, 2 forwards, 2 defensemen and a goalie. Also, inline hockey does not have offsides or icing, all other rules and penalties are pretty much the same. One other difference is that the periods are 15 minutes long and the clock runs continuously.

What league does the WAIH play in? The WAIH plays in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Roller Hockey League (PIRHL). Pirhl.net

When are practices? Practices will be on Monday nights for elementary and our varsity high school teams and Tuesday nights for middle school and junior varsity high school teams. Practices typically start in August and are one hour long. The practice schedule start time and end times will vary pending the number of teams assembled within our organization for any given season.

Where do games and practices take place? All practices and games for elementary school will be held at the Bridgeville Rollerplex. The high school and middle school teams will hold practice at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center. High School and Middle School home games will be played at RMU Island Sports Center and away games are at either RMU Island Sports Center or Murrysville Sportzone.

Does the club have fundraising events? Yes. The club has a variety of fundraising events which are spread throughout the season to help offset the cost of dues and provide a year end gathering. In past years this event was either a banquet or a picnic at the Recreation and Sports Complex at Leopold Lake. The club has two mandatory fundraising events and several optional ones. The monies from the optional events may be used to offset a family's individual club fees.
