Have you ever wondered, "Wow. This field looks great for my child's game! I wonder who put the time and effort in to make certain that we have a great field to play on?"
Wonder no more. It's not necessarily your child's coach. We're already asking a lot of the coaches: They have to come up with practice plans, research new drills, email parents, coordinate snacks and rides to games, and run 2-3 practices a week. If you haven't had the opportunity to coach, it can be daunting.
Two years ago, we started the LCYSA Field Preparation Squad. A group of about 8 parents dedicated themselves (and about an hour of their time) every couple of Fridays to line the fields that all of our children play soccer on each Saturday. Only 2-3 parents need to work on lining the fields each week; the schedule rotates.
It doesn't take much time, and the more people that volunteer, the less each individual participant has to actually do!
This is a minimal time commitment for a parent who doesn't have time to coach or serve as a Board member.
