Shelby Valley Little League has been involved in the community since 1957 giving kids the opportunity to play baseball and softball. Shelby Valley Little League is the only chartered little league in Pike County. Some may ask whats the difference is between school run little leagues and a chartered little league. A chartered little league is chartered by Little League International and it has districts in which you can play similiar to a high school sports structure. You will play surrounding areas chartered little leagues so there will be away games unlike school based leagues which are usually just played in one place with kids enrolled in that particular school. Chartered little league also has all-stars which gives them the opportunity to play in district, state, and if they win the first two on a national level with the little league world series. Being able to play with kids from other school and against kids from other areas makes the experience more competitive and fun. Chartered Little Leagues have an option to take part in the International Tournament, with traveling expenses defrayed beyond the local level. There is major network television coverage, and coverage in all other types of media. No other program does as much for its membership, and the international recognition of Little League is unmatched by any other youth sports organization. Imagine your town’s league playing for the championship of the world on the ESPN Family of Networks! It ONLY happens to communities with a chartered Little League program. Any kid in our district which includes Vallley Elem, Mullins, Dorton, Pikeville, and Millard are eligible to play here. There is also exceptions if there is no chartered little league in your area that you can still play.
