Becoming models of good behavior in youth sports
The goal of Hawks FC is to provide soccer opportunities to youth in and around Lincoln, Nebraska regardless of income or ability to pay. This has allowed our club to field teams spanning a wide range of backgrounds. We value this aspect of our club, but it has presented challenges that we have not always addressed adequately. We feel that it is important that we make clear the expectations that the club has for its coaches, its players, and the families that make up the Hawks FC, so that we can become good models of youth sports in Lincoln. Those expectations are:
- To encourage one another and to have a positive attitude;
- To put forth your best effort, not only on the soccer pitch but in all aspects of your life;
- To be respectful to your teammates, your coaches, your opponents, your referees, and your fellow human beings;
- To avoid acts or comments that are based on any prejudice or bias, including for race, class, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. Behavior of this type will not be tolerated.
We need to be accountable to these expectations. Failing to meet them, whether as players or as coaches, will result in partial or whole-game suspensions, and may ultimately lead to removal from the club. The coaches and administrators of the club will be vigilant about these expectations, but we need your help. If you experience behavior where we are not living up to these expectations, we want you to let us know. If you’re comfortable talking to a coach about it, please do so.

We know that we have work to do but meeting these expectations will help us to succeed, not only as a club but also in life.
