Frank Guida Scholarship

The Frank Guida
Scholarship Fund

In Memory of Frank P. Guida (1919-2005)

Frank was involved with the Redwood City 49ers Pop Warner football program for over 40 years, until retiring at the age of 84. He was always in his element when surrounded by youth, and every player was a "champ" to him. In January 2005, Frank was featured on KPIX, channel 5, as an exemplary youth advocate. His coaching secrets were a passion for the game, attention to detail and an insistence on discipline. His players learned to work hard and not back down to anyone - traits that were evident in Frank even as a young man.

Frank Guida was a President and Board member of Peninsula Pop Warner, in 1993 he was named Redwood City's Outstanding Citizen. In 2004, Frank was named the National Pop Warner Coach of the Year, and was a member of the Pop Warner National Hall of Fame. Known as "Coach Guida" by generations of boys, girls and adults. On August 16, 2011, the City Council re-named and dedicated the old 49er field to the Frank Guida 49ers Field. There is a plaque and bench honoring Frank at the McGarvey practice field.

Coach Guida will always be an inspiration to us and he will always be in our hearts and minds.  His appreciation of his Italian heritage and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all.

The Frank Guida Scholarship fund was created on behalf of "Coach Guida" for children who are in need of financial assistance to play football and cheer for the Redwood City 49ers.

To continue the legacy of Coach Guida and allow all kids the opportunity to participate in football and cheer all donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.
