Meet Our Staff

Mike Carney

I was introduced to the game of golf at an early age by my father.  Golf was not a serious sport to me until much later in life, but we used it as a way to spend quality time together as a family.  Most of my time in my younger years was spent playing basketball.  I graduated High School from Altoona in 1998 and went to the University of Pittsburgh, but continued to play only a limited amount of golf.  Once I graduated from Pitt and got a “real job” I began to play much more.  I moved home in 2005 and married my wife.  We now have 3 young children and the game of golf is how we spend a lot of our time together as a family in the summer months.  Even now, I continue to use golf as a way to spend time with my dad some 35+ years later.  As I see how much my children love the game and the fun it brings, I want to bring that love to other children and their families.

My goal is to provide people of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to further their love of the sport.  Our program will provide professional training and appropriate coaching at any level, even children that have never touched a club.  Golf is a sport that will bring life-long benefits and friendships.  It is a perfect game to allow families to spend quality time together but can also be a place that gets the competitive juices flowing.  Anyone from all walks of life can come together and play on a golf course.

At the end of the day, we all just want to play!

Josh Leibfreid

I was introduced to the game of golf at a very young age by my father.  Basically I wanted to do whatever dad did!  I had a cut down sand wedge in my hand at the young age of 4!  I grew up on our local golf club, The Bedford Elks Country Club.  I played golf for our local high school, Bedford High School, and lettered all four years.  I earned a golf scholarship at Mount Saint Mary's University and captained the team my sophomore through senior year.  After graduation I turned pro working at the Link of Gettysburg and Hollow Creek as an assistant pro and teaching professional.  During this time I coached the Mount Saint Mary's Golf Team.  In 2004, I moved back to Bedford and took the Head Professional job at The Bedford Springs. In 2007, I was hired as the program director of the Professional Golf Management Program and Head golf coach at Allegany College of Maryland.  During my tenure as the program director and head golf coach we successfully trained over 100 college students in the business of golf.  We had 6 teams make it to the NJCAA division II National Championship and our golf program was ranked 10th in the Nation.

I have also played as a professional since 2001 on various tours including the NGA Hooters Tour, Nationwide Tour, Tri-State PGA, and MId-Atlantic PGA.

My goal for Tee'd Up is provide opportunities for juniors in the Bedford and Blair counties the same opportunities that I had as a junior.  The game taught me so much about sportsmanship, etiquette, hard work, and much more needed in life and in sports.
