New in 2026, Southside will be implementing a new PAID UMPIRE PROGRAM.

The Paid League Umpire Program is all about encouraging more people to join as umpires for the league. There are two types of umpires: “Umpire in Chief,” who can call both the plate and bases, and “Field Umpire,” who calls bases only. All umpires are considered contractors and need to be scheduled and sign in before each game.

To keep things simple and consistent, umpires must wear a white shirt for every game. Pay is straightforward: Umpires in Chief earn $20 per game, while Field Umpires get $10 per game, with payments made in cash the Monday after the week worked.

Eligibility is clear: you need to be at least 18 (or 17 for peewee games), pass a written assessment, complete a background check, and have correctable 20/20 vision. If you earn over $2,000 in a year, you’ll need to submit a W9 for tax purposes.
