The Ryan Costello Scholarship is available to support young athletes who wish to play the sport of baseball that Ryan loved and cherished so deeply yet may not be able to afford.

The Ryan Costello Scholarship has been created to honor Ryan who passed away unexpectedly on November 18, 2019 due to a heart failure as a result of an un-diagnosed heart condition known as Wolfe-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW). He was preparing to play for the Auckland Tuatara in New Zealand.

Ryan was born and raised in Weathersfield, Connecticut. He became very passionate about baseball at a young age and excelled from the beginning. Making local All-Stars and tournament teams during Little League, AAU travel baseball with the Connecticut Capitals, and varsity baseball at Weathersfield High School. Ryan wanted to play Division 1 college baseball and was determined to do so. His hard work and drive payed off as he was recruited by Central Connecticut State University. Excited and nervous he ventured off to college the fall of 2014. His freshman year had its fair share of challenges. But instead of becoming defeated, he seized the opportunity for change. Ryan loved people and always wanted the best for them. But he held the people he loved to a standard. A standard of being kind and hard working. No Excuses! In the summer of 2016 and 2017 he played for the Keene Swamp Bats. During his junior year of college the CCSU Blue Devils were the Northeast Conference Champions resulting in an automatic berth to the NCAA Fort Worth Regional. Ryan's ultimate goal was to play professional baseball. His performance at the NCAA regionals put him on the Seattle Mariners draft board where he was a late round pick during the 2017 MLB draft. Ryan was not deterred by being a late round draft pick. He worked hard and during his short three year career progressively moved up through the minor league systems of the Seattle Mariners and, after being traded, the Minnesota Twins. During his short career he made the playoffs every season, he was selected to play in the Midwest All Star game as well as the Home Run Derby representing the Clinton Lumberkings, and hit a go-ahead three run home run to ensure the Fort Myers Miracle the title of Florida State League Champions. Ultimately his career ended at the Double-A level with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Following the minor league baseball season he was signed by the Auckland Tuatara of the Australian Baseball League. Sadly Ryan passed away in New Zealand before the first game.
