As a brand new team composed of 4 returning players, 2 lateral transfers from other clubs, and the rest from recreational/AYSO teams, the team represented the Pateadores organization very well and epitomized the Pateadores swan logo for its unique style of play during Pats Cup 2014 held July 26-27, 2014, in San Juan Capistrano, by shutting out their first 2 opponents: Pats Kickers @ 2-0, and South Slammers FC G01 Black @ 1-0. For the latter game, the score was still 0-0 going into the 2nd half against this Flight 2 South Slammers team. The team turned up the intensity and battled hard going into the 57th minute, wherein they capitalized on a rebound in the penalty box and scored the only goal of the game; then, in true Pateadores teamwork style, everyone worked as one defensive unit until the referee blew the final whistle.
Going into Game 3, the team played with a lot of heart and determination against BYSC Corona United G01 White. Although the team lost 2-0, they earned the 2nd place slot to play the same BYSC Corona United team in the championship game. The team played a grueling 60-minute game on a very hot field while holding true to their aggressive and graceful play style. In the end, the team lost 2-0 to earn the Finalist medal. Not knowing how well this BYSC Corona United team did during Fall 2013 Bronze East bracket in the CSL League, at State Cup Governors Division last January 2014, and their classification to Silver East bracket for Fall 2014 in CSL League, this was a great victory and accomplishment for the GU13 Irvine Blue team.
The team welcomed guest player, Alyssa, from the GU13 Irvine team; and we thank Coach Eddie Bairam for allowing her to guest play with us. The GU13 Irvine Blue team is coached by Chris Hardy and will play in Flight 3 SCDSL 2014 season.
