The Pateadores BU12 Costa Mesa (CM) won the “Super Group” at US Club Soccer’s National Cup XII West Regional Championships held in Davis, CA. With its victory, the BU12 CM becomes the fourth Pats’ team to triumph in the West, setting a new gold standard for the Pateadores boys’ program.
Head Coach Richard Simonyi’s BU12s played with an up-tempo style that got the best of quality opponents. The team’s finishing was clinical, and its ball control was excellent, with some good movement through the midfield. The defense was aggressive -- forcing turnovers that, more than once, were converted into Pats goals.
After cruising through the first three matches with comfortable two goal wins, the BU12 CM needed all of its collective skills to defeat a hungry San Mateo Star ’00 team in the finals, 3-2. It was a thrilling conclusion to the weekend and a great start to Coach Simonyi’s tenure at the Pateadores.
