Jan 30, 2010 - Coming off a successful stint overseas with FC Midtjylland, Pateadores alum Danny Califf will return to Major League Soccer under a new franchise team - the Philadelphia Union. Philadelphia acquired the rights to Califf back in November 2009 and on January 21, 2010 made his signing official.
Danny has an impressive history with the MLS - drafted by the LA Galaxy in 2000, he captured three championships with the team. In 2005, playing for the Earthquakes, he earned a spot on the MLS Best XI team.
But it is his leadership and international experience that has impressed Philadelphia Union (read article), having earned 23 caps with the USMNT. In 2009, he captained the side's 3-2 win over Sweden and helped them to a first place finish in the CONCACAF region to earn a trip to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Califf also helped the squad to the finals of the Confederations Cup, where it defeated powerhouse Spain, 2-0, in the semi-finals.
Congratulations Danny, we wish you the best and we look forward to watching you again in the MLS. Philadelphia Union’s first-ever First Kick will take place March 25, 2010 against FC Sounders at Seattle’s Qwest Field.
