January 2010 - In his freshman year at Ohio State, playing soccer for the Buckeyes was not at the top of Austin McAnena's priority list. As a walk-on, he says he would have been happy just to be in Columbus.
Fast forward to season's end and the word "Cinderella" comes to mind. The Buckeyes captured the 2009 Big Ten Tournament title with a 1-0 win over Penn State just days after claiming their first-ever outright conference regular-season crown and entered the NCAA tournament as the No. 4 seed.
And by the way, guess who was one of only four players who started every game this season? As one of the team's top 3 leading scorers, McAnena also scored a place on the Big 10 All-Freshman Team, and a feature article in the Big 10 website. Congratulations Austin, your success and accomplishments are well-deserved!
