SERVANT LEADERSHIP

Being exposed to different forms of leadership philosophies, ultimately, serving others and putting their needs first is the best form of leadership. Called Servant Leadership by Robert Greenleaf, effective leaders make the team's needs the priority. It's more about the team's success, rather than one individuals' success. When a teammate looks to help others feel good about themselves and succeed, the entire team benefits. But, if teammates think that leadership is all about others serving one individual or small group, they will come to fear and resent those teammates rather than follow and respect them. Leaders seek to humbly serve others.

TEAM UPDATES

U15 Boys
‘It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…’ Saturday we played a very good team from West Hartford. We were missing 6 players at the start of the game and early in the first half, we lost a centerback due to an injury. Even though we would fall behind 4-0 the boys fought back to 4-2, eventually losing 5-2. There was a complete reversal for our league game on Sunday. We thoroughly dominated possession, yet, had to play a man down, but eventually leveling play. We need to find more consistent play regardless of the circumstances, but the team continues to train hard and we will get there."

U11 Girls
"Saturday we fell behind Avon quickly 2-1. We were able to maintain possession and control the second half coming away with a 3-2 win. "

"Sunday we had a league game against Glastonbury. We got off to a fast start and even with limited subs, we were able to maintain our endurance and pressure coming away with a 3-2 win.
All around a great weekend of soccer for these girls!!!"

"We suffered a loss Sunday against Avon in what was a very uncharacteristic game for us.  The game was a tale of two halves. We outplayed Avon in the first half, but could just not put the ball in the back of the net.  In the second half, we fell victim to a few goals scored in transition. Avon’s keeper was quick to the top of the box and consistently punted past midfield. Pressing to score, we found ourselves too far forward at times.  We will be re-addressing positional issues and containment this week. "

U11 Girls B
"We tied Cromwell 1-1 on Saturday. We had opportunities to go ahead in the game, but the ball failed to cross the line, hitting the post once and narrowly missing on a few other occasions.

"Sunday, we were held by Rocky Hill to 1-1 at halftime. The girls left everything out on the field in the second half and found their rhythm, winning the game 6-2."
~Coach Chris Nascimento

U11 Boys
"The boys had 2 games this weekend.  The first was away at Rocky Hill.  The boys were firing on all cylinders incorporating our recent practices focusing on ball movement and playing into open space.  We dominated possession, took plenty of shots, and won 8-1.  The second game was away against an always tough Glastonbury team.  The boys fought hard and created opportunities, but just could not find the back of the net. We lost a very closely contested game 2-0.  I was very pleased with the fight the boys gave all the way to the last whistle! "
~Coach Steve Santos

U13 Boys
"The U-13 Boys fought very hard this weekend. In both games, we played well, but fatigue kicked in later in the second halves. As this happened, our team became stretched out leading to some late goals for the opposing teams. As our fitness improves, we will solve these issues and better results will follow. "
