The U14 Mako Boys played this weekend at the ESPN WWS and had a great run in the silver division that happened to be full of teams that are ranked at GOLD level including Mako 99 making the competition challenging and exciting. The boys won all 4 games leading to the championship game by beating teams from Ohio and Florida. The third game was played against Kendall White raked 8 in state.

The boys were able to beat this team 2-1 goals scored by Kevin Ceren assisted by Miguel Gallegos and then another goal came before the end of the 1st half scored by Sebastian Morales from 20 yards out a shot the keeper could not contained. Championship game was vs Doral a team that has an excellent body size for age U14, 4 of their players are about 6 feet tall already and know how to use their bodies. This will be the only defeat to the boys in a 2-0 game in favor of Doral.
Scores for the weekend:
Sabastian Morales 4
Kevin Ceren 4
Miguel Gallegos 2
Jose Fernandez 1
Leading in Assist: German Lozano, Matias Cozzi and Miguel Gallegos. Best assist of the tournament goes to Matias Cozzi with an MLS quality pass to the left side of the field to Kevin Ceren to score a great goal against Kendall.
Defensive player of the Tournament: Jacob Ressler who stepped into a new position this weekend as a sweeper and did a great job, showing composure and protecting the goal, his commitment to the ball was excellent, his ball distribution and field positioning great.
Goal Keeper: Our Goal Keeper Tyler Hogan, had great saves in every game however I have to say during games 2 and three he did not allow any balls in. He had Three phenomenal saves vs Kendall that kept us in the game and in 1st place before the semi finals. TJ allowed only 3 goals in 5 games and 2 were in the championship game.
Coaches Corner: I am very pleased with the performance of the boys over the weekend specially after the games with Kendall and Doral, both games demanded a lot physically and mentally and the boys proved to be up to the challenge. Myself and I think the club as well should be proud of the Parent behavior in the side lines as we had ZERO issues during the weekend while other parents from other teams had to consistently be reminded to behave and for that I thank every single parent in our group. Now we are looking forward to the first round of Region cup, I am concern about 3 Injuries after the Doral game and hoping the boys will recover on time for those games. I have to recognize the hard work by every single player this weekend including those that played despite injuries and Pain Like German Lozano that put his body to every play and committed to play the best soccer he could play for the team after we lost one of our tallest guys Anthony Hasselbach due to a knee Injury during Game 2. I strongly believe in taking steps to get to the top and not just jump to the top, and I think these boys are earning their ranks as their go, getting the experience they need to succeed in the future not only as soccer players but also as members of society. I do not allow temper tensions during of after games by anyone or bad attitude in the bench, reserve players are as important as any other team member and when they come in the game they have to make a difference, all games are different and even the best players will have bad days.
Special Thank you to Coach Russell and Sherry that came to our final match and took a bunch of pictures. Russ is always helping us any way he can and always get all the paper work on time.
