Moving Established Teams to AC Cugini

As a growing organization, AC Cugini has open spots for entire teams in EDP, NCSL, and ODSL each season — from ages 8 through 18. AC Cugini welcomes coaches and parents who have interest in forming new Virginia- or Maryland-based teams or bringing their current Virginia or Maryland based team to AC Cugini.  AC Cugini officials are happy to meet with coaches or team parents at a convenient time and place to discuss available options.

Note: An "independent" team is one that is not enrolled in AC Cugini's 11-month academy program and, instead, registers per season and pays per player AC Cugini club membership fee of $200 to AC Cugini, while additional travel league team fees/insurance/referee fees are either paid separately to AC Cugini (NCSL, ODSL teams) or the team pays the travel league team fees/insurance directly to the travel league (EDP teams), and pays referees directly on game day (EDP). Coach and trainer fees are paid directly to the coach/trainer with whom the team contracts. Independent team must sevcufre and Pau or their own practice and games fields.

An independent team's affiliation with AC Cugini ends either in November or June, depending on how the team registers in AC Cugini per season (Fall, Spring). For Fall registration/affiliation, the team’s affiliation with AC Cugini ends on November 30. Players/team must register for Spring separately to continue their affiliation / AC Cugini Club Membership and use VYSA /US Youth Soccer rosters or EDP/Club Soccer rosters with the AC Cugini name, Cugini uniforms, etc. in tournaments, indoor or outdoor leagues, official scrimmage.

Teams from outside AC Cugini have the following options when joining AC Cugini:

  • Keep their current coaching staff
  • Contract with AC Cugini trainers for seasonal training

AC Cugini also provides educational resources to its coaches and trainers interested in learning Italian player development methodology as well as discounts on coach training courses in Italy sponsored by the Italian National Olympic Committee and the Italian Soccer Federation. All AC Cugini teams are automatically eligible for tournament play in Italy each summer (extra fees) as well as review by scouts from professional Italian clubs.

Benefits for the College Applicant: There are additional benefits as players get older and include on their college applications that they played soccer at the only Italian Olympic Committee Sanctioned soccer academy in the USA. While only 0.6% of high school players will receive an athletic scholarship for college, it is always helpful to list extracurricular activities that set the applicant apart from others.

Fields

  • Practice fields: AC Cugini Virginia-based independent teams practice in Reston and Herndon in Fall and Spring. Maryland-based teams practice at the Friends Meeting School in Ijamsville, MD. Independent  teams may also use fields closer to their home base if they can obtain practice fields on their own and pay any applicable fees.

  • League game fields: Virginia-based independent teams play game matches in Fairfax County - in Reston, Herndon or Chantilly, depending on referee assignments for Virginia based teams. Maryland-based independent teams play home game matches at fields in the Frederick, MD area and rental fees apply for games not played at the Friends Meeting School.

AC Cugini Club Membership Fee

As with all clubs, each player pays a club member fee each Fall, Winter, and Spring to to be affiliated with AC Cugini for the applicable season. The AC Cugini club membership fee of $200 for each Fall and Spring season has remained the same since 2012. Note: $50 late registration fee applies for players registering after published registration due dates.

Travel League Team Fees:

Travel league TEAM fees are separate from the AC Cugini Club Membership fee.

  • NCSL, ODSL  teams pay their  travel league team fee, which includes VYSA insurance, separately to AC Cugini each Fall and Spring. AC Cugini then includes the payment to the appropriate travel league (NCSL, ODSL) by each league's deadline with the Club's application for Fall or Spring league play.
  • EDP teams pay the travel league team fee from their team bank account directly to EDP for each season they play in EDP and register their team with EDP under the AC Cugini name. EDP teams also pay US Club Soccer fees (for player cards and insurance) directly to US Club Soccer and all referee fees directly to the referee on game day.

Coach / Trainer Fees:
  •  Players pay coach and training fees directly to the team's coach and trainer and not to AC Cugini
