Players age 12 & older: Would you like to have work that is fun and pays well (average $13- $30 per hour) and set your own schedule?

BECOME A SOCCER OFFICIAL!

Certification Training is required to become a referee. Tonka United is hosting a referee training on March 13th at Minnetonka High School (18301 Hwy 7, Mtka 55345). The meeting will be at 8am-5pm in the Forum. To register for this training or to see other training dates and locations, go to www.minnesotasrc.com.

Officiating can give you skills that many college graduates lack.  These skills are:

Communication: As an official, you have to be able to communicate with your assigner. The assigner is the one you work with to get assigned to games. You have to communicate with coaches and players before games time and, with experience, you will learn to communicate with players and coaches during the game. You learn to communicate with the other officials. This includes both verbal and non-verbal communication.  As an official – you will learn to communicate.

Organization: As an official you learn to organize your schedule. You have to balance your school, game and family schedules with your work schedule. You are in charge of what days and hours you can work and you either communicate with your assigner your available times or you assign yourself to games.

Leadership: As an official, you learn to become a leader.  You are responsible for enforcing the laws of the game so that the players can participate in a fair match. You are also responsible for player safety. You also become a leader in that in enforcing the laws of the game and in providing a safe and sporting environment for the players you are “in charge” over everyone else – including all adults involved in the game.

Personal Finance: As an official you will earn an income that can be substantial and with that income you will have to develop saving and spending stratagies.

Street Smarts: Finally, you will develop “street smarts.”  With every game that you officiate you will gain knowledge in different nuances of the game and learn how to handle these nuances differently depending on the situation.

Parents – you can be a referee as well! Officiating is good exercise, provides you with a much better understanding of the game and you can be part of the solution to cover games.
