Former national team captain and Pateadores coach Thomas Dooley was named Assistant Coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team by Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
Dooley’s last assignment for the Pateadores was serving as an assistant coach for the Pateadores U18 Academy team that won the 2011 U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Championship in July in Milwaukee.
As a player, Dooley’s impressive 16-year professional career included appearances for elite Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04. In the U.S., he was a regular on the U.S. Men’s National, with 81 international caps and seven goals. He was named captain of the national team for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Dooley made his first coaching appearance on the national team’s sidelines during its energetic 1-1 draw against Mexico in Philadelphia on August 10.
