PRESS RELEASE (January 23, 2013): Los Gauchos Soccer Club announced that it will merge its organization and its youth teams with the Pateadores, beginning with the 2013/2014 season.
The union of these two tradition-rich programs will solidify the Pateadores position as one of the nation’s top soccer clubs. The move also strengthens the Pateadores’ ability to compete with Major League Soccer (MLS) youth programs in recruiting and developing the best soccer talent in Southern California.
The merger is a winner for both organizations. Los Gauchos will be able to provide its players with a seamless path of soccer development at all levels, including access to the Pateadores’ National Championship-winning U.S. Development Soccer Academy teams.
For the Pateadores, the deal will significantly increase its talent pool of players, coaches and administrators. It will also expand the Pateadores’ brand into the soccer stronghold of the Inland Empire.
The Los Gauchos Soccer Club will transition their Club name to the Pateadores Inland Empire of Redlands (IER) and will operate as a chapter of the Pateadores. Together they will field close to 100 boys and girls teams, serving over 1500 players in the Southern California market.
“This is a partnership between two like-minded clubs that focus on technical and tactical development of youth players at every level,” Pateadores Senior Director of Coaching Jon Szczuka said. “We are excited to leverage our combined talents and to raise the bar for youth soccer in Southern California.”
“Our decision to move the Los Gauchos Soccer Club into the Pateadores was not made lightly,” Los Gauchos Technical Director of Coaching Martin Maguire said.
“The time was right to link up with a club such as the Pateadores and give our players and coaches more opportunities to coach and play at the highest level. We are also very excited about moving into the Southern California Development Soccer League (SCDSL). Playing in the SCDSL will facilitate the development of our players to the highest level possible,” Maguire said.
The Pateadores was formed in 1987 and have been a leader in producing elite soccer players. The club currently has teams in Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego counties. Its office headquarters is located in Costa Mesa, CA.
In 2011, the Pateadores won the highest trophy possible in youth soccer when the club won the U.S. Development Academy U-17/18 Championship. Most recently, Soccer America Magazine recognized the Pateadores as the 11th most highly rated boys’ soccer program in the United States for 2012.
