The Pateadores RSM GU15 showed its class with a stunning 3-1 victory over Cypress FC to win the 2012 Cal South State Cup Governors Division. The win marked an important milestone for the Pateadores’ girls program as the club can now claim two girls’ State Cup title holders in the same year. (The GU13 won earlier in the month.)
Throughout the tournament, Head Coach Jack Peterson’s GU15 played with the kind of discipline and organization that gets you deep into the knockout rounds. The defense and midfield gave maximum effort to shut down space in the middle of the field, reducing opponents to long balls and ineffective crosses. The goaltending was excellent. The result was only two goals conceded in four games against tough competition.
In the semi-finals and finals, it was time for GU15’s offense to be in the spotlight. In the semis, offensive pressure created a wonderful overtime goal for a 2-1 defeat of Real So Cal Black. The momentum carried into the finals with the strikers and wingers firing on all cylinders. The relentless attack led to three goals and the state championship.
