Coach Susan Hill has been coaching for over nine years for AYSO, LNYSA, LNYSA Signature, United Futbol Club and now Pateadores. She received “Coach of the Year” by LNYSA in 2011.
Coach Hill played AYSO recreational soccer until the age of 10 and Cincinnati Premiere League Club soccer up until college. She was an AYSO referee for 10 years and also trained other referees during that time. She went on to play Division 1 soccer for Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX as starting sweeper. The SMU team ranked 18th and then 12th in the nation respectively during her time at SMU.
Soccer is her passion and she truly loves bringing her knowledge to young players. Her philosophy is that soccer is a game that provides both a physical and mental challenge. She feels soccer is one of the best all-around sports a child can play, and she encourages her players to have fun and not to take it too seriously. Coach Hill believes if the players enjoy the game without pressure, they will excel. In addition, she teaches players that there is no position on the field more important than another. Every player makes a difference and offers their individual strengths to the team. No one person is responsible for the win or the loss. It’s a group effort!
Her Coaching Core Values are to promote youth soccer and to foster a love for the game. She wants to guide her players to be well-rounded and responsible and to be respectful players and good sports. She would like her players to walk away from this experience learning responsibility, teamwork, discipline, commitment and other valuable life skills.
Most of all, she is one of the few female coaches that is actually a mom and treats every player like her own. After having many coaches in soccer and National swimming, she realizes what an impact their words have on a person and those feelings can last a lifetime. Therefore, she approaches coaching with a positive and encouraging attitude that makes them love the game…and her. ☺
