A local Huntington Beach girls U14 HB Pateadores club soccer team did a very impressive title sweep of three successive soccer tournaments as Champions. Their impressive run started with the Irvine Memorial Classic held on Memorial Day weekend. The first day they beat Team USA 2-0 and Camarillo Eagles 3-0. The next day saw them play against AV Storm in a quarterfinal that ended with a closely fought 2-1 victory. The Championship game was against Mission Viejo Strikers which at the end of regulation play ended with a tie. The game then went into penalty kicks to decide the outcome. With Vanessa Tapia as goalkeeper saving 2 goals and scoring the winning goal, the HB Pats clinched the cup with another hard fought victory.
The following weekend of 6/4 & 6/5, the HB Pats took part in the Huntington Beach Sand Soccer Tourney at HB State Beach. They took decisive control of all their games with a cumulative 41 total goals scored while only giving up 8 goals against them. Their 4 game victories saw them finish first in their group bracket to earn the title as Champions for second week in a row.
The third tournament was the 6th Annual Swallows Cup held last week in San Clemente. The team won against Cypress Soccer Club 3-0 and CFA 8-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, with temperatures reaching 108 degrees, they faced off against the Irvine Strikers in the quarter finals and capping with a 2-0 victory. For the Championship game, they were paired against a first flight team, the hometown California Premier League. The HB Pats continued their winning form. From the start of kickoff, the team took charge and were quickly up 2 goals by halftime. They continued their offensive strike with 3 more goals to win the Championship 5-2. It was truly a outstanding team performance from all the players. The HB Pats were crowned as Champs on Fathers Day with the players dedicating it to all their fathers. Their previous visit to this tournament in 2014 also saw them win the title.
