The Irvine Pateadores BU9 - Blue capped a successful season by winning the Cal Cup tournament for BU9!The Pats won their group with two wins (7-0 vs Autobahn SC B06 Blue, 3-0 vs Crown City United B9 Blue) and a tie (3-3 vs. CUSC 06 Blue). After defeating HDYSL Rage 4-2 in the semifinal they moved on to the final to face CUSC again. After being down 0-2 at half, the boys played aggressively and were able to tie the game up sending it into overtime. In overtime, although they scored a goal in the first half, CUSC scored one in the 2nd half, and thus at 3-3 went into penalty kicks. After CUSC missed a shot and the Pat's fearless goalie, Sebastian Marin, stopped another of their shots, the Pats first 4 penalty kickers all scored and ended up winning on PKs for the championship! The amazing thing about this Pats team is that they truly play like a team, with more than half of the players scoring a goal in the tournament!
This caps an amazing year for a newly formed team who also won the Toyota of Orange Cup BU9 championship and were finalists in the Pats Cup BU9 as well. They also ended up the SCDSL with a 8 win, 1 loss and 2 tie record, outscoring their opponents 38 to 15! While there were some 2006 players on the team who are moving on, the core of the team are staying together and looking forward to another winning season as the Irvine Boys 2007 - Blue team!
