ABOUT UPWARD BASKETBALL

Upward Sports, the world's largest Christian sports league for kids, has become the place to play fun sports for over half a million families in the United States and Canada. Last year, nearly 550,000 K5 through sixth-graders had a great kids basketball, kids soccer, kids flag football or kids cheerleading experience through one of over 5,000 leagues and camps.

By providing a fun sports experience based on healthy competition, Upward Sports Leagues help kids develop skills for the sports arena and values for life. Upward Sports uses the universal language of sports to connect with kids at a critical age and help them discover and build athletic skills, values, self-confidence and a life-long love of the game. That’s why our youth sports leagues and kids sports camps provide them with the best sports experience possible!

At Upward Sports, families matter. Our leagues give families all the benefits of participating in team sports while protecting them from hectic travel schedules and the win-at-all costs mentality that burns out young athletes. With just a one-hour practice and one-hour game each week, our leagues conveniently fit into busy family schedules.

Upward Sports partners with around 2600 local churches (and ST PAUL'S UMC is one) to provide first-class, organized and welcoming children's basketball, cheerleading leagues and camps.

At St Paul's “UPWARD” Sports Programs we believe that no child should be denied the chance to play sports because of economics. To that end, we have offered partial scholarships each session so children can participate.

In today’s economy, we too feel the “crunch” of available funds. In an effort to support as many children as possible, scholarships are very limited. If you feel registration costs are a stumbling block for your child to participate in Upward Sports, contact the Director of Sports Ministries, to discuss other options. 

UPWARD SPORTS PROGRAMS are always in need of coaches, assistants, referees, and time keepers. We could use prayer partners and half-time testimonies at the games. We need snacks. We need help with setting up and cleaning up at the awards celebration. At the end of each session, when brochures are ready to be distributed to the schools, we need help getting them delivered. The ways to volunteer are endless.
Perhaps you would be willing to volunteer some of your time to Upward in exchange for a portion of the registration costs, or, if you are lucky enough not to be in that position, you would volunteer just because you can.

FALL BASKETBALL/CHEERLEADING


The Spring  2014 Basketball and Cheerleading League will open for registration on January 10, 2014.  You can sign up on line at:  https://clubs.bluesombrero.com/stpaulsumc.  You can pick up paper registration forms at the church office, 8051 E. Broadway Boulevard, Tucson, Arizona 85710. 

Evaluations for Upward (every child must attend) will be on Saturday Feb. 15, 2014, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Evaluations are on a first come, first served basis(Evaluation itself takes about 15-20 minutes).

Practices* will begin the week of March 3, 2014 and the first game* will be on Saturday, March 15, 2013.

*  Practice is one hour per week (Monday -Thursday, which ever works best), and will run from 5:30pm to 6:30pm or 6:30 to 7:30.   The game is a one hour game on Saturday morning.

About Upward at St Paul's

At Upward Sports we believe every child is a winner.

UPWARD promotes character and fun for every child by:

*  Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal and competitive teams
*  Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week
*  Creating the opportunity for every child to learn and improve their skills in the sport

Participating in Upward will give your child a chance to experience good sportsmanship on and off the Court.  Your child will also receive a special recognition award after every game and will have the opportunity to develop new friendships.

Registration Info

If there is a child who has played Upward Basketball for an extended period of time, we like to honor them with our "Upward Ironman" recognition trophy.  To date we have awarded SIXTEEN (16) trophies to players who have participated in five or more back to back sessions of Upward Basketball.
