League Divisions

Eastern Little League has playing divisions for players ages 4-12 during the Spring season:

  • Wee Ball: Age 4
  • Tee Ball: 5-6
  • Rookie Division: 7-8
  • Minor Division: 9-12
  • Major Division: 9-12

For the Fall baseball season, we have three divisions including Tee Ball (ages 5-6), Coach Pitch (7-8) and Kid Pitch (9-12). See below for further details on our Spring and Fall season divisions. See Little League’s League Age Determination tool to confirm your child’s league age. Playing rules applicable to each division can be found on our Rules page.

Wee Ball
Wee Ball is an instructional league for boys and girls, age 4, and provides an introduction to team sports for our youngest players. In Wee Ball, players hit the ball off of a batting tee. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. Parents are strongly encouraged to be involved at this introductory level of baseball. No score is kept during the game and no outs are recorded. All kids hit each inning and the last batter of the inning is the “homerun” hitter.

All players will be assigned to teams on a random basis. Team requests can be submitted during registration and can typically be accommodated, but we cannot guarantee it. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team.

Wee Ball typically starts by the second week of April with one practice a week for two weeks, followed by six games ending in late May. No practices after the first two. The games last approximately an hour and are typically scheduled Tue through Thu at 5pm at the Lower Field at Lansdowne Merrick Park. The practice and game schedule will be set by the first week of April.

Tee Ball
Tee Ball is a competitive instructional league for boys and girls, ages 5-6. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of hitting and fielding, and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Parents are strongly encouraged to be involved at this introductory level of baseball. In Tee Ball, players hit the ball off a batting tee. Scores are kept and standings are maintained throughout the season.

All players will be assigned to teams on a random basis, with the objective of balancing the number of 5 and 6 year-olds on each team. Player requests can be submitted during registration, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. Requests are prioritized in the order they are received. Returning 6 year-olds must remain on their team from the prior Spring season. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team.

Tee Ball practice will begin by the second week of March. Teams typically play two games (one weekday and one Sunday) and have one practice per week OR one game and two practices. Weekday games are typically at 5 or 6pm. The practice and game schedule will be set by early March. All teams compete in postseason play culminating in the championship game on Championship Saturday at Ecton Park in mid-June.

Rookie Division
Rookie Division is a competitive league for boys and girls, ages 7-8. The Rookie Division is “coach-pitch” baseball. Players are out if they do not put a ball in play after 6 pitches. Scores are kept and standings are maintained throughout the season.

Teams are selected through an evaluation and a draft selection. All players will be selected to a team. No player may request assignment to or selection by a particular team. Returning 8 year-olds must remain on their team from the prior Spring season. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team.

Rookie practices will begin by the second week of March. Teams typically play two games (one weekday and one Saturday) and have one to two practices per week. Weekday games are typically at 6pm. The game schedule will be set by late March. All teams compete in postseason play culminating in the championship game on Championship Saturday at Ecton Park in mid-June.

Minor Division
Minor Division is a competitive league for boys and girls, ages 9-12. The Minor Division is “player-pitch” baseball. The bases are 60 feet apart and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Stealing bases is allowed, but there are no leadoffs. Scores are kept and standings are maintained throughout the season.

Teams are selected by tryouts and a draft selection. No player may request assignment to or selection by a particular team. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team, unless otherwise requested. New players ages 9-12 can choose to tryout for the Major Division or Minor Division. Any players not selected in the Major Division draft will then be a part of the Minor Division draft. All players in the Minor Division draft will be selected to a Minor Division team. Any returning Minor Division player may choose to stay on their Minor Division team the following season or tryout for the Major Division. Minor Division players that entered the Major Division draft but were not selected are eligible to be called up to the Major Division during the season on a temporary or permanent basis.

Minor Division practices will begin by mid-March. Teams typically play two games (one weekday and one Saturday) and have one to two practices per week. Weekday games are typically at 5:30. The game schedule will be set by late March. All teams compete in postseason play culminating in the championship game on Championship Saturday at Ecton Park in mid-June.

Major Division
Major Division is our most competitive league for boys and girls, ages 9-12.

A returning major division player will be assigned to the same team as the prior Spring season. Players that are not selected in the Major Division draft are eligible to be called up from the Minor Division to the Major Division during the season on a temporary or permanent basis.

Major Division practices will begin by early March. Teams play two or three games (one to two weekday and one Saturday) and have three or four practices per week. Weekday games are typically at 5:30pm or 7:30pm. The game schedule will be set by mid-March. All teams compete in postseason play culminating in the championship game on Championship Saturday at Ecton Park in mid-June. Major Division players are eligible to be selected to Eastern’s All-Star teams following postseason league play. Please review the FAQs for more information on All-Stars.

Fall Season Baseball
Fall Baseball at Eastern is an instructional league which provides an excellent learning environment to introduce your child to baseball, improve their skills and prepare them for the next level up. Fall ball is more relaxed and less of a time commitment than the Spring Season. We have three divisions including Tee Ball (ages 5-6), Coach Pitch (7-8) and Kid Pitch (9-12). Players play in the division they will be eligible for the following Spring season.

All players will be assigned to teams on a random basis, with the objective of balancing age and experience on each team. Team requests can be submitted during registration, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. Requests are prioritized in the order they are received.

Games and practices are on weekdays only. Fall registration typically opens in late July with practice beginning in late August.
