The following guidelines were prepared by New Canaan FC’s COVID-19 Committee and approved by New Canaan FC’s Board of Directors.

The goal is to keep our children safe during their return to soccer and to protect public health. In accordance with the CDC’s “Considerations for Youth Sports” and the State of Connecticut Sector Guidance we have outlined guiding principles for our “reopening” of soccer. All participants – parents, players, coaches – are expected to follow the guidelines outlined below.

MASK WEARING UPDATE  MAY 4 UPDATE

As directed by the Town of New Canaan Health Department, ALL PLAYERS ARE NOW EXPECTED TO WEAR MASKS AT ALL TIMES which includes games and practices.

These updated guidelines are per updates for the Connecticut Department of Health received on April 21st.

TRAVEL GUIDELINES - March 28 Update

New Canaan FC will continue to follow the NCPS District Guidelines in response to families traveling outside of the state of CT.
All travelers should quarantine for 10 days upon returning to CT from another state (including NY, NJ, RI) or country unless:

  1. You test negative within 72 hours of return, or after returning, to CT.
  2. You've recovered from a positive COVID-19 infection within 90 days.
  3. Your stay was less than 24 hours.
  4. You're full-vaccinated (14-days after the last shot)

GENERAL

  • ALL PARTICIPANTS (PLAYERS ) MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES.
  • ALL OTHER INDIVIDUALS (PLAYERS, COACHES, PARENTS & SPECTATORS) MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES WHEN NOT ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN THE ACTIVITY.
  • Participants are not permitted to share water bottles or squirt water on one another.
  • All participants should have a temperature check prior to attendance. If the participant has a temperature over 100.3s, participant is not permitted to attend practice or game.  
  • Participants should be vigilant in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus by practicing good hygiene, social distancing, and wearing a protective facemask as recommended by CDC guidelines.
  • Participants must stay home and contact New Canaan FC if experiencing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or if participant has been exposed to someone who has had signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please see CDC guidelines for specific COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Participants who are repeatedly sneezing and/or coughing may be asked to immediately leave the field. (e.g., sneezing, coughing, or looks like they are not feeling well).

FIELD GUIDELINES

  • Carpooling is discouraged for practice and games. When carpooling is necessary, face coverings are strongly recommended.
  • Players should not arrive early to practice or stay late. Should a player arrive early, he/she should remain in the car until the designated start time.
  • No congregating before or after practice. Please maintain a 6-foot distance when walking to and from the field.
  • To avoid unnecessary bunching, players should arrive fully dressed with cleats and shin-guards on.
  • Once at the field, players should take out what is needed for the session, put everything else back in his/her bag and hang it from the fence or place on the ground separated from anyone else’s bag by 6 feet. For younger age groups, coaches will place cones on the ground to indicate where players should place bags.
  • All players and coaches shall bring their own water bottles. Water bottles shall not be shared.
  • All water bottles should be labeled with the owner’s name.
  • Disposable water bottles should not be left at the field.
  • Any water bottles left on the field will be immediately thrown out by the coaches after practice.
  • No spitting on field or rinsing mouth out during water breaks.
  • Food is not permitted on the fields. This includes chewing gum, candy, sunflower seeds, cupcakes, etc.
  • A player with a medical condition that requires a readily available food source should notify the New Canaan FC Program Directors so arrangements can be made.
  • Each player should bring their own soccer ball to every session.
  • Excluding Petite and Junior Rams sessions, parents are discouraged from staying at practice. If parents choose to stay, they must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Parents are not permitted to sit in stands or benches.
  • Coaches should survey the field after every practice. Nothing should be left on the field.
  • Players should bring their own hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes to use after practice as well as a towel to wipe sweat from their face or arms prior to getting in the car to leave. Players will NOT be allowed to share such cleaning applications.

PRACTICE SESSION DRILLS

  • ALL PARTICIPANTS (players, coaches, parents, siblings) MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES.
  • Bunching, especially at the younger ages, is unavoidable. When bunching occurs, coaches will instruct players to “separate” or “distance”.
  • Players who fail to follow distancing protocol will be asked to sit-out for some period at the coach’s discretion. If the behavior continues, coaches will escalate to Luke Green.
  • Players are not permitted to touch other players’ balls or coaching equipment (cones, goals, etc.) with hands. Coaches only will move equipment. During game-type drills, players will kick-in rather than throw-in.
  • During water breaks, players should practice social distancing. To ensure proper distancing, players should drink water at their own bag, which should be at least 6 feet from any other bag. Sharing of water bottles and squirting other players is not permitted. At the conclusion of water breaks, players should return water bottle to their bag.
  • Masks may be removed for water breaks ONLY.
  • When a coach is offering instruction or speaking to players, players and coach must properly distance.
  • At the end of the session, a wave or a salute will take the place of handshakes. No huddle, no high-fives or fist-bumps.

 

PRACTICE MONITORS

  • Practice monitor should notify the coach if he/she observes any noncompliance of above guidelines.
  • If, after speaking with a coach, the noncompliance continues, the practice monitor should email New Canaan FC President, Pat Quill.

 

GAMES

  • All above guidelines apply to games. However, players, at the coach’s discretion/instruction, may arrive to games 30-minutes prior to the start. All other equipment and distancing guidelines apply. Throw-ins will be permitted.
  • Coaches and Players, when not in the game, are expected to wear a face covering and distance.
  • Sideline assistants should wear a face covering, practice social distancing, and assist coach with player adherence to above guidelines.
  • Spectators will be expected to practice social distancing at both home and away games and follow any additional protocol outlined at away facilities. For example, some opponents may allow a maximum of 1 spectator per player.
  • Tents and “Tailgating” are not permitted.


COMMUNICATION

  • In accordance with state and local privacy and confidentiality laws and regulations, New Canaan FC will notify local health officials, other youth sports program staff, umpires/officials, and families immediately of any case of COVID-19 while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable laws and regulations.
