MESSAGE FROM CACTUS LL PRESIDENT

Dear Cactus Little League Families:

I wanted to take this opportunity to address the situation that occurred at Freedom Park last week. As some of you know, we had a motorbike rider come through the park and playing fields. He/she had no regard for anyone in the park or on the fields, and several parents and players felt unsafe and threatened. Clearly, this person is breaking the law. But it has been difficult for TPD to figure out where this person lives because he/she is coming in off of The Loop. Because this has happened twice, the board and I have done the following:

-I have been in constant communication with the city, TPD, District 12 and the ward office.

-I have been told they will do what they can for us. This could mean additional patrols through the park and parking lots, adding Freedom as a stop on the park safety officers’ nightly route and just being aware of the situation with the motorbike.

-We will be adding four temporary gates at the openings of Field 2 and 7 that will be locked during practice and games to prevent vehicular access onto the fields. This way he/she won't be able to access the fields when the kids are playing on them. Since it is a public park, they will have to be opened after practices and games to allow park staff and the public access when we are not utilizing them.

-All parents and coaches are instructed to call 911 if they see this person and please DO NOT ATTEMPT to interfere with them or their motorbike.

-Some parents and coaches have asked about liability and whose responsibility it is if someone was to get hurt while on the field. Per District 12 and Little League, our insurance that we purchase every year from Little League would cover us and our league. That being said, if any parents, players or coaches no longer want to be at Freedom, that is their choice and no one is forcing anyone to use the fields.

I would hope that all of you know me by now and realize I take the safety of our coaches, families and players very seriously. But it is important we stay vigilant as a Cactus community and not let this one individual keep us from enjoying the game of baseball, spending time together and, most important, our kids making long-lasting friendships.

Thank you.

-Antonio Moreno, Cactus Little League President
