What is Holland Soccer?

The Holland Division was established in 2004 as a separate division of the Soccer Club of Ridgefield to enable boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities to enjoy the game of soccer along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide.

Read more about why this is called the "Holland" Division

Games will be structured appropriately for the participants in the program.   We will strive to provide the participants with small sided games where they can explore their skills with soccer and have a great time.  The participants will be guided by volunteer mentors from the Ridgefield High School soccer program as well as age appropriate “buddies” from the SCOR House, Academy and Travel programs.  The participants are encouraged to learn to kick the ball, learn basic soccer skills, and most of all to have fun,

The Holland program is associated with TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) which provides meaningful learning, development, and physical participation opportunities for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer volunteers. The program is designed to meet the needs of children aged 5-18 years with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.  TOPSoccer began in 1991, designed and administered by US Youth Soccer, the nation’s largest youth sports organization. This program fosters the physical and emotional growth and development of America’s youth through the sport of soccer at all levels. It takes kids from the sidelines and gets them into the game.

The players will develop a sense of community and will learn what it is like to be a part of a team. The program will improve their social skills, fitness and self-esteem. But most importantly the players will have FUN!!

How does it work?

  • Once a week on Saturday at a field in Ridgefield (time and location TBD)
  • 1 hour long, small sided games
  • 6-8 sessions during the Fall season, beginning approximately the second weekend in September
  • Teams will be grouped by ability not by age
  • “Buddies” will be paired up with each child and stay with them on the field
  • Parents are required to stay at field during entire session
  • Wear sneakers or cleats, a soccer ball and T-shirts will be provided
  • Focus on fun

Who is eligible to play?
