SCN Board Positions

Below is listed all of the current positions on the SCN Board of Directors.  The Board is an all-volunteer group of parents dedicated to the advancement of the SCN programs.  If you see a position you may be interested in, please contact Eric Feldblum for openings and for more details.

Position
Responsibilities
President
  • Helps set strategy for the club

  • Oversees the monthly board meeting

  • Acts as a liaison with the town departments

  • Coordinates with the other Directors and assists with their responsibilities

  • Oversees (But doesn’t need to) Wrap Up Tournament

  • Attends Presidents meeting with CJSA representatives in January, and another similar meeting in July

  • Attends most central district meetings with the club representative monthly

Vice President
& Field Coordinator

The Vice President assists the President and runs meetings in his/her absence.  The main duties of the vice President are related to being the Fields Coordinator.

  • Oversees the development of practice and game schedules.

  • Communicates with the local Parks and Recreation Department on all items relating to field maintenance and scheduling.

  • Fills out the Town applications for Field Use twice a year

  • Makes decisions on the playability of fields during the season by 2-3 pm weekdays/7 a.m. Sat/Sun

  • Assigns fields for games 2 weeks prior to game day, usually done once a week w/ a few last-minute updates for cancellations or postponements.

  • Assists the Wrap-Up Tournament Directors with field needs.

  • Attend Coaches and Coordinators meetings. (twice a year)

  • Attend Monthly SCN BOD meetings and report on field use activity and issues.

  • Book dates of recurring club activities at local facilities.

Treasurer
  • The treasurer is responsible for maintaining the books, processing payments to contractors and vendors (including referees), filing tax documents, delivering and presenting a monthly reconciliation of accounts at our monthly board meeting.

Registrar

The Club Registrar maintains and processes all registration information.  Computer skills are very helpful. 

  • Receives player registrations from the Club online registration provider.

  • Edits registration information into the club database.

  • Prepares registration information for CJSA twice a year.

  • Receives and maintains travel player eligibility records from Travel Coaches via our website.

  • Register Travel Teams on the CJSA Central District website.

  • Prepares Travel Team Rosters and Player Passes.

  • Prepares Travel Team, CT Cup Applications to send in to CJSA Office.

  • Submits Travel Team Rosters and Passes to District Registrar for Approval.

  • Attend Monthly SCN BOD meetings and report on registration activity and issues.

Club Representative

The Club Representative represents the SCN at all CJSA District and State Level meetings.

  • Attends Monthly Central District Meetings

  • Attend CJSA Annual General Meeting

  • Attend Monthly SCN BOD meetings and report on District issues and Travel League issues.

  • Communicate all Travel League fees and any league policy changes to the Treasurer, Travel Directors, Referee Coordinator and Registrar.

Referee Coordinator
  • Coordinates with the referees on issues related to SCN and referees contracting with the club.

  • Attends referee meetings and training sessions

  • Coordinates the recruitment of Referees and promotes referee training

  • Coordinates with CSRP in the provision of local referee training

Boys Travel Director
  • Maintains relationship with the Boys Travel coaches.

  • Ensures the players registered for the travel teams have tried out

  • Coordinates tryouts in late May early June. Coordinates off season supplemental tryouts.

  • Helps to recruit new travel coaches each year.

  • Informs travel coaches of the annual coaching application deadline

  • Handles any travel related matters between parents and coaches

  • Assists at the Newington wrap up tournament

  • Oversee travel coaches meeting (preseason)

  • Oversee travel parents meeting (preseason)

  • Coordinates with the Director of Coaching


Girls Travel Director
  • Maintains relationship with the Girls Travel coaches.

  • Ensures the players registered for the travel teams have tried out

  • Coordinates tryouts in late May early June. Coordinates off season supplemental tryouts.

  • Helps to recruit new travel coaches each year.

  • Informs travel coaches of the annual coaching application deadline

  • Handles any travel related matters between parents and coaches

  • Assists at the Newington wrap up tournament if possible

  • Oversee travel coaches meeting (preseason)

  • Oversee travel parents meeting (preseason)

  • Oversee coaches online score reporting to the District Travel League, help coaches with entering online scores.

  • Coordinates with the Director of Coaching


Pre-K Rec Director
  • Oversees allocation of players (in random fashion) to recreational teams

  • Helps coordinate recreational coaching recruitment

  • Sets recreational soccer schedule for coaches

  • Oversees recreational coaches meeting

  • Oversees recreational parents meeting.

  • Works with Rec and fellow Travel director to coordinate the Photo Days for Travel and Recreational divisions.

  • Coordinates with Director of Coaching and Equipment director in calculating jersey orders


Junior Rec Director
  • Oversees allocation of players (in random fashion) to recreational teams

  • Helps coordinate recreational coaching recruitment

  • Sets recreational soccer schedule for coaches

  • Oversees recreational coaches meeting

  • Oversees recreational parents meeting.

Senior Rec Director
  • Oversees allocation of players (in random fashion) to recreational teams

TOPSoccer Director

US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training program for all athletes with intellectual, emotional, and or physical disabilities. The program strives to provide soccer opportunities (the opportunity of soccer) for players to develop at their own pace in a safe, fun, and supportive / inclusive environment. The TOPSoccer director would coordinate a 6-week program, 1 hour a week, hosted by volunteers, typically recruited from high school.


Director of Revenue

he Special Revenue director is responsible for organizing all fundraising efforts, but which involves managing the club’s concession stand and directing food sales at the Wrap Up tournament. They also work to coordinate sponsorship with the help of the President.

  • Purchase supplies from Sam’s club, or other big box store, for concessions.

  • Prepare the Concession Stand for inspection and operation.

  • Ensure the Snack Shack has a Food Safe Certified representative each season

  • Oversee the scheduling of volunteers to work the concession stand.

  • Develop new fundraising efforts for the SCN.

  • Coordinates the Coaches Appreciation Dinner

  • Maintain relationships with Club Sponsors.

  • Attend monthly SCN BOD meetings and report on activities.


Equipment Director
  • Oversees ordering of uniforms for recreational and PreK programs

  • Oversees ordering of Hard Goods when needed.

  • Performs price checks and helps coordinate with President in the uniform RFP

  • Orders light Rental for Fall season (Mid Sept through 1st week of November)


Communications Director

The Publicity Director is responsible for publicizing club activities to the community-at-large.  Most of the job relates to handling email and Social media traffic and promoting SCN through Web and Social Media Platforms.

  • Maintain and post information on the club website and social media

  • Communicate with the local media to publicize club activities.

  • Reply to simple parent questions, but forward involved ones to correct directors.

  • Maintain relationships with Club Sponsors via mentions

  • Develop Newsletter highlighting stories, new programs etc sent to director by a specified date.

  • Attend monthly SCN BOD meetings and report on activities


Web and App Director

The Web and Applications Director is responsible for supporting the technology that helps run the club. This includes development and support of our website and applications. In addition, the Web and Applications director helps the Communications director and the Registrar fulfill their roles.

  • Works with Registrar to build out new programs on the website.

  • Works with Communications Director to set up templates which include sponsor information.

  • Help Maintain and post information on the club website and social media.

  • Helps to publicize club activities via Web and App.

  • Attend monthly SCN BOD meetings and report on activities.
