  • The Academy program is only successful if you and your child commit to the training and development program.  Missing training sessions and games will hurt their performance and has an impact on their teammates.  If you register for our program, we generally expect that your child will attend at least ONE training session per week and will be able to attend the FOUR Sunday game dates.  We understand that illness and scheduling conflicts can happen.  So keeping us informed when there is a conflict will be very important!

What do I need?

Players will need to wear cleats, long socks, and shin guards to each practice.  You may wear your uniform to training and games.  If you have not purchased a uniform, you may wear a WHITE t-shirt.  In colder weather, please dress appropriately with long pants and sleeves.  Players may bring a water bottle.

Ball Size:

  • U5-U8 (Size 3)
  • U9-U12 (Size 4)
  • U13-U15 (Size 5)

Uniform Kits:

Uniform kits may be purchased and sent directly to you by ordering at (link will be added soon).

Cost is approximately $30 plus shipping.  Any number may be selected.

Where do we practice?

All training sessions and games are held at the Shawnee Sports Complex in Dunbar, West Virginia.  Players should arrive 10 minutes before their designated training time to make sure they are at the field, properly equipped, and ready to go!

Safety!

In the event that the lightning alarms are triggered at the Shawnee Sports Complex, a warning announcement will be made telling everyone to vacate fields.  This announcement MUST be followed and all spectators and players must leave the fenced area.  We would ask that players and parents go to their vehicles and wait for the all-clear signal.

Absolutely no one should be hanging, climbing, or standing on goals.  All goals MUST be anchored with weight bags.  Failure to follow directions from the coaching or complex staff regarding goal safety will not be tolerated.

Are there other activities during the season?

We are planning to schedule a goalkeeper training session for Fall 2022.  The Spring training consisted of 8 sessions for $80.  If you were able to see any of our goalkeepers in action this Spring, you will know that this training was well worth the time and money!

The SSRA has committed to participate in recreational tournaments that become available either at Shawnee Sports Complex or other locations.  Past events have included the Lorenzen Cup in Summersville, Mountain State Cup at Shawnee, and the State Open Cup in Barboursville.  Decisions to form a team and invite players to participate in these events will be based on parent/player interest.  Players will be invited to participate on these teams based on the assessment of the coaching staff regarding player ability, attitude, and commitment.
