Obligations and Responsibilities of Players

In order to compete with other towns, SSC is enrolled as a member of the MYSL. Along with this membership there are a number of rules which must be adhered to. These rules may change from time to time without notice. All players are expected to adhere to all rules imposed by SSC and MYSL otherwise they will be subject to suspension.
Travel teams are formed at the start of each season. A season consists of a fall session and a spring session. A commitment to both sessions is required for placement on the level 1 and 2 teams. The fall session is a recreational/placement session and the following spring session is competitive and determines placement in league standings and eligibility for tournament play.

Players are encouraged to attend all scheduled practices and to participate in practices and games to the best of their ability. The coach and assistant coach have full discretion on how to use his/her players during a game (subject to the suggested time requirement above). A coach will base this on a player’s commitment to the team (i.e., attendance at practices, learning new skills, attitude, and level of participation during a game).

As participants in the SSC and MYSL, players are expected to follow a code of conduct which includes the following responsibilities:

**Make every effort to learn and follow the rules of the game of soccer.

**Foul language and inappropriate comments before, during, and after games and practices are strictly prohibited.

**Participate in all aspects of the program in accordance with the highest levels of good sportsmanship

**Listen, pay attention, and respect coaches, assistant coaches and referees.

**Enjoy your experience - players are encouraged to discuss any issues preventing this with parents, coaches, or assistant coaches.

**Treat all SSC equipment with respect.

**Come prepared to play including the proper uniform and equipment. Equipmentrequirements include standard soccer shin pads and proper athletic footwear. The SSC encourages players to use plastic soccer cleats (metal, baseball or football cleats are not allowed).

**Uniforms can only be the uniform approved by the SSC. If a player does not have the proper uniform and equipment he/she will not be allowed to participate in a game.

**Treat your teammates with respect.

If a coach or assistant coach believes, in his or her sole discretion, a player does not adhere to the above listed responsibilities and the player’s actions are detrimental to the team, the coach or assistant coach may recommend a player for suspension. The recommendation must be presented to the Board of Directors by way of the Travel Committee Coordinator. The recommendation must include the reason for the recommendation and the recommended term of the suspension.
