UPDATE: 7/2/20
LYS is in the process of submitting a Safe Return to Play Plan to Lassen County Public Health. An email was sent out today to those registered that reads as follows:
Dear Lassen Youth Soccer Members,
As you probably know, the Lassen Youth Soccer board has been working hard to make it possible for our local youth to safely return to the game of soccer this coming Fall. In light of the current global health crisis, the upcoming Fall season may not look exactly the same as it has in past years. For the safety of our players, coaches, and spectators, we may have to follow specific guidelines that will be recommended or required by our governing bodies. We are writing to inform you that the LYS board has drafted a proposal to safely return to play for approval by the county, in which we lay out our plans, while following the guidelines recommended or required by both Lassen County, and CalNorth Soccer. Once we have a plan approved, we will publish that plan for public view.
Once the guidelines have been put in place, if for any reason you are not comfortable with your child playing soccer in the Fall, we will be offering full refunds through July 23rd. After that date, we will be ordering uniforms and equipment, and will no longer be in a position to offer refunds. (This date does not apply to LYS providing full refunds if the season were to be cancelled at a later date.) We expect to have a plan available for the public to view by mid-July, allowing plenty of time for everyone to thoroughly review the plan, and make any decisions regarding their children accordingly.
These are ever-changing times we are in. Because of this, we can only plan the coming season based on the current situation in our state and community. As things change, and hopefully improve, we may have to make adjustments to our guidelines. This may mean either lifting some of the guidelines as things improve, or possibly implementing new ones, if necessary.
Please bear with us as we work diligently to get your kids back to playing the game we love. We have all faced many challenges and hardships in the past months, and just as we have learned to adapt to our “new normal”, we believe we can all adapt to any changes we may have to face in order to give our kids the opportunity to safely get back onto the pitch this Fall.
We thank you for letting us provide the game of soccer to your children, and hope you know that they are our first priority in any and all decisions made for our league.
Best regards,
Your Friendly Lassen Youth Soccer Board
UPDATE 5/12/20:
We are moving forward with online registration starting May 1st. Registration will remain open through May 31st. As the situation changes, we will give another update regarding U10/12 player assessments, as well as other important dates to come.
For those of you worried about the possibility of the season being cancelled, please know that the LYS Board has agreed to either credit you toward the next season (and waive any fee increases due to a child aging into an older division), or provide full refunds to all members in the event of the current health crisis causing us to cancel our upcoming season. Many other sports organizations in town that play in the Spring were caught off guard by this virus, but because we are able to foresee the possibility, we are taking steps to be able to provide refunds to our members if the worst case scenario does occur.
There is a lot that goes into planning for a season, and we at LYS are working full speed ahead to provide a great season for your kids! Please don't wait until it's too late! Get your kids registered today!
3/27/20:
Hello soccer families, coaches, and players,
I hope this message finds you healthy and staying active while we all try to get through this difficult time. I just wanted to update you all as much as possible regarding our upcoming registration season. I understand that many of you might be wondering what effect this current situation will have on our upcoming season. Before this pandemic had affected our country, the LYS board had set tentative dates for the season and corresponding events. We had originally prepared for our registration period to begin May 1st, with our annual on-site registration during the Children’s Fair. Unfortunately, due to the current state of our country, as well as the postponement of this year’s Children’s Fair, we will not be able to hold that on-site registration. As far as the online registration dates, the board plans to meet soon (via video conference!) to figure out how we will be moving forward. As soon as any decisions are made, I will send out another email, and will be posting to both the website and Facebook page. Please refer to those platforms for further information.
As our kids are out of school, and we are all staying home whenever possible, it has been difficult for a lot of families to figure out how to keep kids learning and moving. I would like to share a list of resources CalNorth has put together to help our kids and families get through this difficult time (and help keep our parents sane!). I hope you find these resources helpful.

Also, as the weather begins to warm up and kids are able to go outside more, you can find TONS of soccer training videos and tutorials online, if your kids want to hone in on their soccer skills in the privacy of their own yard!
I would like to reassure you that LYS continues to be committed to developing, promoting and administering the game of soccer for the youth of Lassen County. I hope that this all passes soon, and we can enjoy yet another successful Fall soccer season. I wish you all health and happiness in the months to come.
Alli Clavel
LYS President
