Carroll, Skros Formally Honored at 2019 NJYS Awards Dinner Presented by RWJBarnabas Health
East Windsor, N.J. (Feb. 21, 2019) ― New Jersey Youth Soccer recently hosted its 31st Annual NJYS Awards Dinner presented by RWJBarnabas Health, where many players, coaches and members of the soccer community were celebrated at the Pines Manor in Edison, N.J. Included in the ceremony was the announcement of the 2018 Allan B. Sinclair Memorial Scholarship winners, with Caitlin Carroll and Steven Skros receiving the honors.
The Allan B. Sinclair Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the many contributions that Allan B. Sinclair made to youth soccer. Sinclair had an extensive career with NJ Youth Soccer, serving as NJYS President for nearly 25 years before working as the NJYS Executive Director from 2008-2012. His time and dedication to youth soccer was mostly done as a volunteer, not only in the state but also in the region.
Caitlin Carroll has shown great leadership while attending Toms River High School South, as evidenced in her being the captain of Toms River Independent Soccer Club since 2015 and captain of her high school basketball team since 2017. Her leadership is shown by example, and she looks to be a constant source of encouragement for the teammates around her.
Additionally, Carroll is the secretary for her high school's chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and she volunteers her time for other community initiatives as well. A highlight from her philanthropic work includes a trip to the Dominican Republic, where she helped build houses for underprivileged families. She conducted the work with GOES, a mission group based out of New Jersey.
Steven Skros began playing soccer with a local U-6 recreation team, and soccer immediately became an important fixture in his life. He credits playing recreation and travel soccer with teaching him life skills and also creating some incredible memories as well. In addition to improvements as a soccer player, he says that he has learned social skills and organization, which has helped to mold him into the person he is today.
Skros has also volunteered his time with several community service programs in his hometown of Woodbridge, such as Tooling Around the Township, where people in his neighborhood help out those in need. Projects have ranged from clearing debris around his township to constructing raised garden beds for an elderly home that now supplies fresh produce to local food pantries.
