Game Day Procedures

Please review the MSYSA Game Day Processes & other MSYSA Return-To-Play Guidelines & COVID19 information: https://www.michiganyouthsoccer.org/Resources/COVID-19_Information.htm

Score Reporting Changes:

Scores are to still be reported by the winner (or home team in a draw) into GotSport via the schedule page (MSPSP website) or via the user / team account. Scores are no longer called in via phone and must be done online with a computer or via smartphone (online). A guide on how to report scores is in the FAQ section. Teams will need the PIN # and match # from the MSPSP Match Cards to input scores. Scores CAN be input by either team, but the responsibilities remain to the winner (or home team in a draw) to report scores. If there are any errors, please notify MSPSP. You can print off a copy of the match card to obtain the match # and the pin # if you know the scores.

SportsForms Online Match Reports:

Teams will print the match card (standard version that shows both teams) out of GotSport and bring to the field for the referee. The referee will complete the match card and submit online into SportsForms. Teams (head coaches) will receive a copy of these reports via email. No post-game signature is required. Coaches and managers are still encouraged to take a photo of the match report upon completion for your own records before leaving. Please make sure to thank the referee too! :) Teams will no longer provide referees envelopes to send match reports into the MSPSP Office.

-Protest Process Changes:

The process to protest matches has changed with the change to match reports. Teams no longer write 'PROTEST' on the match report. The process now is to notify MSPSP directly. You should also notify the referee (ASAP: either pre-match, during, or post) as a courtesy and for them to make note.
What can be protested? Misapplication of the laws of the game (FIFA), misapplication of league rules (MSPSP), ineligible players, incorrect field size, club passcarding violations, match length, dangerous playing conditions (facility).
What cannot be protested?  Cards, offsides, goals, ejections, referee discretionary calls, etc
Notify MSPSP via email > MSPSP compiles match details and notifies MSPSP Disciplinary Committee who reviews > MSPSP Disciplinary Committee makes determination and sets outcome, possibilities of replay, forfeit, void, fines, etc.

MSPSP Sportsmanship:

We will be monitoring sportsmanship provided on behalf of the referees in a rating system composed by the MSPSP Disciplinary Committee. Teams with excellent sportsmanship are likely to be acknowledged / awarded. Teams demonstrating poor sportsmanship may have team officials / club staff may be required to attend a MSPSP Disciplinary Committee hearing.

MSPSP Pre-Match Processes (slight difference from MSYSA Game Day Processes):

  • Provide referees the match fees and match card (standard version) first thing at the field (or once they arrive).
  • Referee fees can be found in the 'Referee Instruction Sheet' on MSPSP website > 'League Info, Forms, and Rules' page or below.
  • During the usage of MSYSA Game Day Processes, when checking into MSPSP matches, MSPSP passcards and roster are to be 'shown' to referees rather than provided - passcards are to not leave the possession of the team official (Coach or Manager) in charge of that teams passcards like in traditional seasons where the referees return them at the end of the match.
  • The referee will 'check' the passcards either by the team official holding their passcards / roster for the referee to view, or placing the passcards on a bench, table, ground, etc, for the referee to review.
  • The referee should not, at any time, take possession of the passcards. These are to be retained by the team official.
  • For players who wish to club passcard - a copy of their roster / passcards should be obtained / retained by the team official responsible for club passcards for the team.
  • Players should not possess their own passcards, only the team official or club staff.
  • MSPSP recommends printing the entire team passcards and laminating the full page, as well as roster, so they can be cleaned easily.

Post-Match Processes:

Thank the referees and clean up the field and bench area. You can take a photo of the match report if needed (cards, goals, Match & Pin # for scoring input). The referees will complete the match report and submit online via SportsForms. Teams will receive a copy via email.

MSPSP Team Official Send-Off Policy:

Team Officials (Coaches, Managers) are subject to a $250 fine if they are sent-off / ejected per the MSPSP Team Official Send Off Policy. This includes straight-reds and yellow / yellows. Additionally, Team Officials can receive cards on behalf of their spectators; it is important to understand team officials are responsible for their parents and are expected to promote a positive atmosphere for players and spectators. When a team official is sent off, it is an automatic 1-match suspension to be served immediately. The MSPSP Disciplinary Committee may also assess additional penalties(s) or schedule an MSPSP Disciplinary Hearing.

Referee Evaluation Form:

The referee evaluation form serves as a method for team officials to report a positive or negative match experience regarding the referee(s). If the referee(s) had an excellent performance or perhaps had a poor performance, kindly let us know in specific detail so that we can communicate this with the league assignors as well as the Michigan Referee Committee for further evaluation. The evaluation form can be found on the MSPSP website.
