All about rowing for South Eugene Rowing Club
Please note: The waivers and agreements as noted on the registration
Membership Requirements page, and other requirements such as a physical exam and/or swim test if required, must be completed prior to the rower’s participation in training activities.
No rower is eligible to attend practice before registration is complete, all documents are signed and received and the USRowing membership is up to date. Rowers that have not completed all requirements will be unable to participate in water practice or participate in land practice activities. South Eugene Rowing Club assumes no responsibility whatsoever for non-members.
Everyone Rows: We take anyone willing to show up and work hard – there are no cuts or tryouts.
Try rowing for free: Online registration is required to attend a free trial. Trials are held during the 1st week of each season; you can attend any three practice days during that week. After three practices, you can register for the current season and begin practicing with the team once all additional
membership requirements are submitted.
COVID-19 Safety: Our rowers' safety is our top priority. We are following COVID-19 safety protocols as defined by the State of Oregon and USRowing, our governing body. At this time, that means that masks must be worn at all times.
Read the full details on our COVID-19 safety protocols.
Cost: SPRING 2021 Fees are $800. The fee covers coach salaries, equipment maintenance, fuel, insurance, rent, and other operational costs. All rowers must also have a valid USRowing membership (~$10) and a uniform if participating in regattas (~$85).
Register online.
Financial Aid: Returning rowers and rowers who participated in the most recent summer camp are eligible to apply for financial aid. Our financial aid program is need-based and administered by a group of volunteers who are not current SERC parents to protect privacy and ensure that aid decisions are entirely need-based.

Dates: Fall season typically runs from the start of school through mid-November. Winter training runs December through the end of February. Spring season runs from the beginning of March to late-May.
Transportation: Due to COVID-19, we are not able to provide transportation to Dexter Lake at this time.
Location: Practices are held at Dexter Lake, South Eugene High School, and Kidsports
Regattas: Registration fees include entries to several regattas and scrimmages at various OR/WA locations. SERC typically participates in 6-8 regattas every year.
Practice Times: On-water practices are typically 4pm to 7:15pm. Dry-land practices are typically shorter and end at 6pm.
What to Wear: Rowers typically wear “trou” which are spandex-like shorts, but any close-fitting shorts will do. When the weather is cooler, layers are critical. Generally try and avoid loose-fitting clothing.
Uniforms: Uniforms are purchased independently and required for racing. Uniforms cost approximately $85. Other SERC rowing gear is available for purchase via our website and via special orders 3-4 times/year. Non-logo rowing gear can always be purchased from
Regatta Sport,
Sew Sporty, and
JL Racing.
US Rowing Membership Required: In order to compete in regattas and participate in practice, rowers must have a current US Rowing membership. Only "basic" membership is required to practice (~$10). The "regatta package" must be added for rowers that compete in regattas. Information on how to sign up is provided during registration.
Swim Test: All new rowers must complete a
one-time swim test at a local pool or wear a PFD during practice. Additional information is available during registration or you can
download the required forms.
