West Nile Virus / EEE

This year, 2012, mosquitos carrying the West Nile Virus were detected in Westford. The town has sprayed in the affected areas, but caution still needs to be exercised. According to the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP), the Fall season presents the highest risk.

Insect repellant, long-sleeved shirts and long pants should be worn when possible. According to the University of Wisconsin College of Agricultural and Life Sciences"Repellents with the best track records include the following: DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, and oil of lemon eucalyptus (PMD)."
