Coaching Information

Welcome Soccer Coaches!

PLAYER ROSTER


Coaches will receive their player roster around mid to late July. The coach then needs to notify the parents which team their child is on and set a practice schedule. Due to our liability insurance, practices cannot begin until August 1st. See Practice section below.

GAME FIELDS

Pee Wee and PreK/Kindergarten: Games held on the small Lake Park soccer field.  Lights available for evening games.  The light switches are located in 3rd base dugout shed (get padlock code from Soccer Coordinator). The light switch is on the left just inside the door – there are 2 switches (one for the infield and one for the outfield). Please turn off lights at the end of the game.

1st – 2nd Grade: Home games held on the large Lake Park soccer field with goals. Lights available for evening games.  The light switches are located in 3rd base dugout shed (get padlock code from Soccer Coordinator). 3rd – 6th Grade: Home games held at Schoendienst Park. 


FIELD RESERVATIONS

Fields for practices and make-up games may be reserved under the Village of Germantown website: https://germantownil.net/field-reservation/

Obtain the password from a Soccer Coordinator.

FIELD CONDITIONS/CANCELLATIONS


Coaches have the discretion to cancel games due to weather or field conditions. Coaches are responsible for rescheduling any missed games. Remember to check field availability beforehand.


EQUIPMENT

All coaches receive an equipment bag at the beginning of the season. Coaches will have to sign an inventory sheet at the start of the season indicating the equipment he/she received.  The equipment bag should contain the following:

  • 6-10 Soccer Balls (with at least 1 good condition ball for games)
  • Practice Vests/Pinnies
  • 6-8 Cones
  • Hand pump
  • Two goalie shirts of different sizes
  • Two pairs of goalie gloves
  • First Aid Kit

If any equipment is damaged and needs replaced, please notify a Soccer Coordinator.

Coaches MUST return the equipment bag at the end of the season. A GYA Coordinator will review the inventory list when the bag is returned.


UNIFORMS

 
PeeWee - There are no uniforms for PeeWee. Coach can use practice jerseys for the games.

PreK-Kindergarten - Before the first game, coaches will be given t-shirts that the players keep at the end of the season.

1st -6th Grade - Before the first game, coaches will be given jerseys that the players keep at the end of the season.

Soccer Socks: GYA has some soccer socks that players can purchase for $5.00 per pair.

Shin Guards & Cleats: All players should have shin-guards. Cleats are recommended. Players are responsible for their own shin-guards and cleats.


PRACTICES

Coaches have the discretion to schedule practices around their personal schedule or poll the parents to see what works best for the team. Practices for the younger teams typically end once the games begin and practices for the older players are typically held throughout the season, but that is at the discretion of the coach as well. Reminder - practices on the fields need to be scheduled on the Village of Germantown website. A Soccer Coordinator will give you the website and password for access.

PeeWee can practice at any available park space. 

PreK-2nd Grade
practice can begin practice any time after August 1st. The goals at Lake Park will be set up as soon as the baseball/softball season has ended. Practice may also be held by the school playground if Lake Park is not available.

3rd - 6th Grade practice at the West Soccer Field or Schoendienst (if available) any time after August 1st but reserve time on the website. 

Coaches may also schedule practices at another location that works best for them.



REFEREES

PreK-Kindergarten: Coaches referee the games.

1st - 2nd Grade: One referee is required. Set fee is $20 per game.

3rd - 6th Grade: Minimum of two referees required. Set fee is $25 per game.


The home team coach is responsible for paying the referee(s) at the end of the game. Obtain payment from Soccer Coordinator before game.
