The Rule on Approved Bats has Changed
Please review the information below carefully to understand how the bat regulations are changing. All bats in 2018, must comply with the new Little League standard approved by USA Baseball
What bat regulations are in effect for the 2017 Spring & Fall Little League baseball seasons?
For 2017, the existing rules remain in place. In Little League (Majors) and below, the bat may not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length nor more than two and one-quarter (2¼) inches in diameter. Non-wood bats shall be labeled with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less.
Are composite bast permitted for play in 2017?
Generally, Little League does not permit the use of composite bats. There are a very limited number of composite bats that have been exempted from this rule. Click here to see the list of approved bats.
What is the new bat rule for 2018?
Effective January 1, 2018 - ALL Bats used in Little League practices & Games are REQUIRED to comply with bat standards set by USA Baseball. ALL approved bats will have one of these logos stamped on the bat. A bat without one of these logos, will not be permitted to be used:
Why is Little League changing the bat rules?
The new rules create strict performance standards for bats that will create a "wood-like" standard and will be consistent for all approved bats. Visit the USA Baseball FAQ page for more details about the new bat standard.
Will ANY previously approved Little League bats be allowed to be used after 2017?
NO, as of January 1, 2018, only USA Baseball approved bats may used in Little League baseball. The ONLY is exception is the Senior Division which will continue to be governed by the BBCOR bat standard.
Can existing bats be traded in for bats that meet the new standard?
Bat manufactures have not yet communicated any programs to trade or recycle old bats in exchange old bats for USA Baseball approved bats. You should contact the manufacturer of the existing bat before buying a new bat to see if they will offer any specific trade in programs.
