Patriots Win 2019 Men's Flag Football Championship

It was a cold, wet, and muddy day on the GCC Gridiron on the last Saturday of men's flag football season for the Patriots and Seahawks. Much like the Super Bowl played between these 2 NFL teams in 2015, this game came down to the very last play.

Both teams were held scoreless in the 1st half as the sloppy field conditions proved to act as an 8th defender on the field for each teams defensive unit. The Seahawks finally broke through with a touchdown pass on 4th & goal from the 5 yard line midway through the 2nd half. The Seahawks held their 6-0 lead with just over 2 minutes left in the game when their defense forced the Patriots to turn the ball over on downs near midfield. The Pats were able to turn the ball back over on downs inside their own 20 with just over a minute left thanks to a couple Seahawks incomplete passes. On 3rd and long, the Pats connected on a long pass for a 1st down at midfield. As the ball was hanging in the air, both the receiver and defender slipped and fell to the ground when they attempted to plant. The receiver was still able to make the catch while on one knee just inches from the sideline. Three players later, the Patriots found an open receiver up the left seam and he rumbled into the endzone to tie the game with only 9 seconds left. The Pats then took the lead on a lineman release play on their untimed one point conversion down from the 5 yard line.

The Seahawks made things interesting by completing a pass to midfield and getting out of bounds with 1 second left, but the final play was unsuccessful and the Patriots claimed the 2019 GC Sports Bowl in dramatic fashion. Final Score: Patriots 7 Seahawks 6
