Inter Atlanta FC Blues

frequently asked questions

1. What is Recreational Soccer?

Rec soccer is designed to be a fun, non-tryout, less competitive and cheaper program as compared to an Academy or Select program. The training and coaching is carried out by volunteer soccer coaches. Compared to Academy or Select soccer, Rec soccer requires a lesser amount of time and financial commitment from the parents and players. It mainly involves one or two practices per week and one or two games per weekend depending on the age group. Rec soccer is designed to be fun while still learning about the game of soccer and gaining player development.

2. What age groups does Rec soccer apply to?

Rec is from 4U to 19U, which includes players ages 3 to 19.

3. Are the genders split?

The only All Girls divisions that we have available are our U7/U8 All Girls, 10U Girls, 12U Girls, 14U Girls, 16U Girls, and 18U Girls. Every other age group is Coed, which can technically roster females, though this becomes very rare as you move up each consecutive age group.

4. How do I know which age group my son/daughter is in?

New age group mandates from USYS and Ga Soccer are requiring age groups to be determined by birth year. Check on the Fees section right above to show birth years and age groups.

5. Is Academy soccer that different from Recreational soccer?

Yes. Expectations for the players in Academy soccer are much higher. There will be two or three 1 ½ hour practices per week and one or two games per weekend. In Recreational soccer, players are placed on a team on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of ability level. Academy players are selected at tryouts on ability.

6. When are Tryouts?

There are no tryouts for Rec soccer. It’s first come first serve till our age groups are filled. If you’d like to tryout for Academy and Select, head to our Tryouts tab to find out more information.

7. What is the commitment length?

The Rec players are registered through Georgia Soccer to play for their club for one season. The soccer year is split into two seasons. The Fall Season, which runs from August to late November/early December and the Spring Season, which runs from February to May.

8. How many teams are there in each age group?

It varies between age groups, based on the registration numbers.

9. What are the team levels in each age group?

There are no levels in Rec soccer.

10. How are games scheduled in Rec soccer and how many weekends does the season cover?

The Rec soccer season is a 9 to 10-week season. All 4U-12U teams will have Saturday games, and all 14U-19U teams will have at least Saturday games but sometimes Sunday games too, depending on their schedules created by Ga Soccer. All 4U-12U Rec games are scheduled by our Inter's DOC-Rec, and all 14U-19U Rec games are scheduled by Ga Soccer.

11. How many players on a team?

4U-5Us play 3v3, so we like to try to have around 6 players on each roster. 6U-8Us play 4v4, so we like to try to have around 8 players on each roster. 9U-U10s play 7v7, so we like to try to have 12 on each roster. 12Us play 9v9, and we like to try to have 14-16 on each roster. 14U-19U play 11v11, and 18 is our ideal roster size.

12. How much playing time will my son/daughter get?

The guideline is equal playing time for every player, regardless of skill level and age group or gender.

13. Are players expected to attend every practice and every game?

Yes. If a player cannot make a practice or a game, the coach must be notified with as much advance notice as possible. Whilst it is expected that a player will be at each practice and game, it is accepted that sickness and special occasions may mean a player misses an occasional practice or game.

14. What nights and times are practices?

It depends on the age group and the fields that we are able to permit from City of Atlanta and Atlanta Public Schools. Generally, 5U-9Us will get to choose from M-F, 10U-16Us from M/W or T/Th.

15. Where do the teams practice?

Practices are held at either Candler Park, Iverson Park, Walker Park, Austin Field, Coan Multipurpose Field, or Toomer Elementary depending on the age group and gender.

16. Are there written codes of conduct for players and parents?

Yes. Inter Atlanta has written codes of conduct for players and parents. These can be found on the website, www.interatlantafc.com under our Resources tab.

17. What are the fees?

See above on website for regular registration fees. If registering before our regular registration, during Early Bird registration, you’ll receive a $25 discount. If you register after our regular registration period ends, you’ll pay a $25 late fee on top of regular registration amount. To see breakdown of costs, please scroll up on this page.

18. Do rosters stay the same from season to season?

Rosters from spring to fall are always shuffled around. Roster from fall to spring are also slightly shuffle, because balanced play is what we are trying to achieve overall. Generally, even from spring to fall, older team rosters (U12 and up) try to remain somewhat intact.

19. Why do rosters take so long and why am I not with my friend requests?

Rosters take into account many different factors, including but not limited to, carpool requests, friend requests, conflict days, and gender ratios. Because so many factors are involved, team formations require many hours of work. Getting over 1000 kids on the exact team, night, and with their carpool is nearly impossible. We do our best but no guarantees are ever made for any request.
