Hey ShredHeads!
Do you find yourself bike shopping this Holiday Season?? If so, we can help you out some! We asked our friends at Wheelie Fun Bike Shop to give some bike brands they carry for youth riders, along with offering some suggestions, hints and tips to folks looking to purchase a bike.
Here is what they had to say:
The 2 brands Wheelie Fun offers for youth riders that are a great bike are Cannondale and GT. These are all a big step up from "Box Store" bikes! Clearly, Salsa, and Transition offer even more features and are extremely light weight. We have sizes 12,16,20, and 24.
We give the Gators Riders a 25% discount on bike accessories and new kids bikes purchased from us have a 50% trade up value. However, WFBS is not the most convenient location for all team members. Some folks simply may be right down the street from their favorite shop.
Here are a couple of tips for buying in case you don't have the Wheelie Fun Guys around for FAQ's.
1. Stick with a bike brand you know. Trek, Giant, Specialized etc.
2. Avoid coaster brakes as much as possible. Riding over roots is difficult with a coaster brake. Few bike companies offer hand brakes for 12 and 16" bikes.
3. If you must buy from a Box Store, find a bike mechanic and have them check the assembly. Box Store employees typically don't know bikes well.
Hope that helps! Big ole shout out to the folks at WFBS for the above advice!
Have a Happy Holiday,
Coach Armstrong
